GH3 Gh3 in the wild

https://vimeo.com/56800375

Some some random real world stuff I've filmed while playing around with my new GH3. Nothing serious. One thing I feel is evident from this footage is the improved DR compared to the GH2. Specifically the high-noon, super bright snow stuff. A bit more write-up on the vimeo page.

Most was using the 72 mbps codec, some was the 50mbps.

Thanks for looking.

Although there's still a bit of noise in the shadows, I'm still impressed at the improvement over the GH2, which tends to fall apart in high DR situations.

It's because you're using the ALL-I codec. Nearly every Gh3 user thus far has come to the conclusion that IBP is better than the ALL-I codec. Try doing some comparison with the two codecs and you might see that IBP is the way to go forward with the camera.

I can't see a difference between the two codecs and I have done comparisons. I used the 50 mbps to save space on the card those times. I shot that short film using the 50mbps and I see just as much noise as the 72 mbps (but I felt it was less gradable). When I had my GH2, the higher the hack's bit rate, the more noise I got. The more detail there is, the noisier it seems. I even used this to my advantage with a D4 to try to get somewhat usable video, I wouldn't shoot below 800 iso. For this video, the only visible noise in my opinion (I look at the non vimeo compressed footage) is the shot of my grandparents getting gifts, but yeah under-exposed low frequency sections like walls will show noise at 400 iso. Even 200 iso. I do find the GH3 noise to be more like 16mm film grain rather than very ugly video noise.
