GH3 focus peaking (ft5) !

Vincent, I'm sure they won't give that to us. The max you can wish for is that they might leave a backdoor open for people like Vitaly.

It is not enough for them to allow custom curves or profiles to be loaded to the camera. As the D800 shows, there is a lot of image processing that happens before the profile is applied and that can cripple your image (that's why the same D800 profile, applied in the camera to create video, or in the PC to convert a RAW still to JPG, will generate completely different results in terms of usable or unusable shadow detail). I'm afraid changing this in-camera pre-processing is not easy, it is most probably built into the demosaic hardware.

XLR option - hint: look at how the HMC40 gets its XLR and you'll see how the new GH3 will get XLR, same way as cannon C300. It's a $300 unit that just clips on the handle on the top. Heck I was looking to figure out the pin outs of this unit and just fashion it into the TSR mic input jack.

I sure hope that the XLR accessory for the GH3 is not more than $300. Sony is charging $800 for their XLR adapter grip for the upcoming A99!! Yikes!

But your custom styles on the 5D work fine, don't they? So am I missing something?

Yes my profiles for the Canon DSLRs and the D800 work fine... within the constraints imposed by the in-camera processing BEFORE my profiles are applied. What I mean is that I could get much better DR if it wasn't for that restriction, specially on the D800. Check, at the end of this old D800 test, the difference between in-camera processing and in-PC processing of the same RAW info: https://vimeo.com/39899742

And all this could be a software thing (something that could be solved in firmware) or a hardware thing (a low DR output could be built into the demosaic hardware). No way to know from outside Panasonic (ok, maybe Vitaliy has a way, I surely don't)

OK, I understand now. Interesting to see how much better your curve works compared to pushing the footage in post. Let's look at the good side: If the average maximum DR of Canon and Nikon are 12 stops (11,5 for Canon and 12,7 for Nikon) Panasonic might get close...

the curve helps because it is applied before the H.264 4:2:0 encoding, but it can't use everything that the sensor captures because it is applied after the debayering (which seems to generate a 4:2:2 image with reduced latitude, both on Canon and Nikon cameras)
