GH3 GH3 comparisons?

So, in the past year or so, depending on when someone decided to make the purchase, the GH2 could be had for as low as $500 (body only), possibly even lower.

Now the GH3 is here. Although it's still to be hacked, it seems to be getting rave reviews from most people who've used it. And, the videos I've seen here and at vimeo are pretty stunning.

On the other hand, the GH3's more than double the discounted price of the GH2 and that puts the GH3 in a different league than the GH2 in terms of cost.

My question then is this: Are there other HDSLR/mirrorless cameras that one might consider from Canon, Nikon, et al, in this more expensive league? Or, is the GH3 still head and shoulders above anything else out there until you get up into something like a Black Magic Camera or maybe a 5DMkIII?

In case it wasn't obvious, I'm still trying to decide on when and what to purchase (to move up from my prosumer Panasonic AG-HMC40).

Thanks for your opinions.

The gh3 has a better build and a bunch more upgrades from the gh2, but if you can't make a beautiful image on the gh2, you ain't gonna do it on the gh3. If budget is an issue, then the gh2 is more than capble. It's a few yrs old, but it's still and always be a great image producing machine.

The only other low cost camera to consider is the new Nikon 5200 which seems to have many of the GH2 qualities shooters like ( detailed 1080 HD image with minimal moire and aliasing ), as well as very good low-light performance.

So true! the GH3 has a different look than the GH2 with a magenta cast instead of green. i could handle the green better with the GH2 and have been strugling a little bit changing my shooting habbits for the magenta cast. If you know how to fine tune it, you can get absolutely beatiful video but I don't think we've gotten to that sweet spot yet. so far though the GH3s are producing better quality footage over our GH2s.
