GH2 GH2vk hack playback problems...

I loaded the latest ptools and went for the H42 L35 settings. And for some reason my ps3 can't read the avchd files from the sd card. Had no issues before with the gh1-13-2. I can view the .mts files in windows 7 MP no problems. Plus Pr CS 5 is fine with the footage, but when I export ( in to h.264/mp4 ) I can play the exported file in win 7 mp fine but QT and VLC can't. It's all jerky. Plus when I use a USB stick to play the file on a WD media play, it either doesn't play or it freezes all the time. I've used the setting export setting in CS5 for the last 6 months with no problems till now. Is there to much data for QT, VLC, PS3 and WD media player to deal with? How come windows media player is the only thing that can?
Cheers Aaron
(im uploading footage to vimeo now)

Are you installing the files onto the drives, or trying to play them from media ??? You could have a problem with, the media can't feed as much as the file is pumping out...maybe ??? That's my best guess, am sure more suggestions will be coming shortly.

I have the same playback problem on PS3 with settings H50/L32. I get an error msg and can't play at all
VLC plays back blocky throughout, but not as bad as the usual first 20 frames low bitrate blip.
Toast Video Player has no problem.
FCP X has no problem transcoding and plays back fine.
QT and VLC play .mov fine.

Setting 24H to 32 (no blip) plays back on PS3 OK.

Maybe it's something to do with the blip at the beginning of the clip?

EDIT: Plays OK on HDTV via HDMI.

I don't have a "solution" to your PS3 playback issue, but I can suggest a line inquiry. I use an Apple TV which, like the PS3, accepts non-Apple video for playback in MP4 format. However, the Apple TV is fussy about the parameters of the MP4 file and won't accept higher resolution files. Perhaps, like the Apple TV, your PS3 is not able to handle the high quality files that you're feeding it. If you haven't already you might try giving it lower resolution files. Just a thought.

My PS3 plays 1080p60 MTS files from my Panasonic TM700 and 1080p24 24H from my GH2 without any problems.

I'm not surprised these higher bit rate files do not play back on the PS3.
It would be nice if they did, but not a reason to not go with the higher bit rate encode.

If your intention is to run-and-gun for fun, then why bother with the higher bit rate.

Once you finalize your media, just select the correct media encode for bluray, or whatever you're final target may be.

Also, does anyone know if Cineform files play back on the PS3? If not, there may be another low loss intermediate that plays well with the PS3.
