GH2 GH2-X v4 "NINE" (Quantum 9b + P-frame 720p Patch for 30MB/s)

Unfortunately, 'Nine' cannot be used with electronic m4/3 glass. The processing power is not there for both.

Did some non-realworld chart testing of Sage's "NINE v9b" patch that was posted on 1/24/2012. In each stability test I got the exact same results, & it didn't matter whether the lens had software correction for distortion. Or whether ETC, or OIS, was enabled.

CAMERA: Early model NTSC GH2. Was previously hacked, then overwritten with Panasonic's Firmware 1.1
BATTERY: Panasonic OEM
SCENE FILE: Smooth, all sliders @ -2.
ISO: 800
SHUTTER: 1/60th for 24p, & 1/125th for 720p/60
CARD: Sandisk 64Gb 95MB/s SDXC. Formatted between tests.
TARGET: PappasArts Codec Test Chart V.2 in 1080P on a 50" Samsung Plasma via a MacMini.

LENSES:
-Panasonic Lumix 7-14mm f/4
-Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 12 mm f/2.0
-Panasonic Lumix 20mm f/1.7 Aspheric G- Series
-Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95
-Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8
-Panasonic Lumix G Vario HD 14-140mm f/4.0-5.8 ASPH./MEGA O.I.S.

RESULTS:
24 H = Spanned, but no playback. Non-spanned files played back in-camera.
24 L = Same as 24 H.
SH = Did not span, but footage is fine. Files that didn't max out the FAT limit played back in-camera
H = Spanned, & played back in-camera.

NOTES:
Very impressive. Next up real world tests. And later my other m4/3, & 4/3 lenses.

Is this patch higher quality than the 176mb/s version? Or which hack is the highest quality. Or are these newer hacks just for optimization and spanning on non-95mb/s cards?

Anyone know about my quality question?

I'll let Sage or others answer definitively, but my understanding is that the highest 1080 setting for 24p cinema mode is identical to the original 176mb/sec hack....but just has better utilization, or quantization or whatever its called in how it assigned the bit rate to compress the data.

Here is Driftwood's post on Personal-View for v9b:

Just took some stuff down in Shenandoah National Park on Saturday. The 1080p stuff looks as crisp as ever.

Hmm...thanks for the personalview link. I found this:

    @driftwood, or anyone,
Is Quantum V9 better than SeaQuake? Sorry for the question, but things get kinda confusing when you don't keep up for a bit.

Yep, much better Q than seaquake.

How can the quality be "much better"?

How can the quality be "much better"?

The color/detail is much improved through finer macroblocking, especially in the shadows.
It is more intelligent than the original 176 in its use of bitrate.

Hi Sage-

Upon seeing this patch and it's capabilities in 720p, it's about time I step up from the GH13. I'll be buying a GH2 and I shoot a lot of mountain biking, which means lots of HIGHLY detailed scenes (foliage, dirt, etc). In your opinion, can I be sure I'll be okay with a Sandisk 30MB/s? Or should I spend some more money for the Sandisk "Extreme" 90MB/s?

Thanks

Deep focus high detail is exactly where this patch will make a huge difference. 30Mb/s is fine. If you intend to use native m4/3 glass, please test extensively before using on the field - I do not have the glass to test, but the latest update may allow these to be used.

A note: I did add stable 1080i earlier this week (functionally equivalent to v9b 50/60, so unlike Nine it will get messy on complex detail).
I think m4/3 lenses may work now, though I need more confirmation from users.

Tried NINE last version, and just for info: constant lockups in 720p60 with 14-140 AF off and OIS on. Sandisk 30mb/s 16GB.

Quality is amazing when no lockups.

Thanks.

Tried with Samyang 85mm 1.4@5.6. No lockups. Sandisk 30mb/s 16GB.

Great quality. Testing more...

Thanks.

Sage- I'm rethinking my lenses to use with the GH2's. I think I'm going to go with m43's lenses now. I've downloaded your latest "NINE+m43.zip" patch above and will apply it when I order my setup. But just before I hit the order button, I'd like to know if buying a 95 mb/s card would help the m43 instability issues with m43 lenses? Or is this a camera processing issue?

Thanks
