*UPDATED 1/5/2012

FEATURES
HIGH BITRATE INTRA FPS:
-~5 seconds burst at 60 fps 1920x540 Intra FSH (for any size 95MB/s, ~3 sec for Sandisk 30MB/s) **
-Continuous recording at 50 fps 1920x540 Intra FSH **
-Continuous recording H setting for 720 60fps (uses more efficient P frames to keep I frames at 220 bytes in 3GOP) **
-Continuous recording L setting for 1080p 30fps [80% vari mode] (600 bytes per frame) (also longer 24p storage option)**
-AQ4 Intra at 1920x540
-Continuous option for every framerate (*tested to last longer than 1 minute under extreme stress for the duration) **
-225 bytes per frame at 60fps **
-260 bytes per frame at 50fps **
**On deathchart (Pappasarts)

DESCRIPTION
This firmware is intended for use with 1080 60i/50i in manual movie mode (720p for 60fps continuous).
It includes Driftwood's Quantum 1080 24p, allowing high bitrate intra on the GH2 at all framerates. This is a half vertical resolution slow motion mode (such as the F65'S 4k x 1k). To use the 60fps footage in a CS5.5 24p timeline, simply place the clip on the timeline and enter a speed of 40%. Premiere automatically uses the fields progressively in the ideal way (don't alter de-interlace setting).

FRAMERATE GUIDE
60 FPS
-1080 60i, FSH: Intra burst, 225 bytes
-720 60p, SH: 3Gop burst, P frames like I frames, 225 bytes (recommended to use 60i instead)
-720 60p, H: 3Gop continuous, 220 bytes
-1080 60i, FH:
Do not use
50 FPS
-1080 50i, FSH: Intra continuous, 260 bytes
-720 50p, SH: Intra burst, 260 bytes (recommended to use 50i instead)
-720 50p, H:
Do not use
-1080 50i, FH:Do not use
30 FPS
-1080 30p, L: Intra continuous, 600 bytes
-1080 30p, H: Intra burst, 780 bytes
***For ETC Users: the continuous settings become burst: 60p-4sec, 50i-7sec, 30p-20sec)
****Because of in-camera software lens correction, native m4/3 electronic glass may affect performance; non distortion-correction glass is recommended (no m4/3 glass on hand to test)

CARD GUIDE
You cannot use any less than Sandisk 30MB/s or 95MB/s. It has been tuned specifically for these fast cards, and will not work on others (tested).

What patches is this comprised of?

Quantum v2 for 24p, and then the slow motion patch (includes continuous options for all fps + plus intra burst at 60i)

This time, superior continuous & burst is included in the same patch, not two separate versions.

I'm an idiot when it comes to figuring out the difference between the hacks.

Basically, can I shoot 1080p24 with this patch using a Sandisk Extreme UHS-1 30mb/s class 10 card without it locking up? Don't know if I'd ever really use the other features until I figured out how best to implement them, but I've heard very good things about the Quantum v2 patch and was just waiting for it to be finalized and then ask if it would run on the card mentioned above.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Tony

Yes, Quantum v2 will work well on that card. Though - it won't span past 3.99Gb (4 minute takes). A 95MB/s is needed to span with Quantum. Quantum (and this patch) are ideal if you intend to shoot color graded narrative films aimed for theaters (where it can be played losslessly via DCP). If you intend to shoot for internet distribution, patches such as Ralph's long GOP 'Sanity' and Driftwood's spanning intra 'Aquamotion v2' will be more practical and suited to the task.

Sage,

Thanks so much for the response. I had downloaded the latest "Sanity" patch and installed it, but had not had a chance to try it out. Will do so, as I don't think any of my work will ever make it to theaters. I'd just be happy being able to color grade the footage with my newly acquired ColorGHear toolkit for After Effects and have it look good on Vimeo, Youtube and my 60" Samsung television!

Thanks again,

Tony

Hi Sage. Thanks for posting. I was wondering why you recommend 1080i over 720p for slow motion. Also why do you say Quantum is ideal for theatrical graded work? Is it just the super high bitrate qualities when compared to other patches? Or are you implying that the benefits of quantum and grading are minimized if compressed for delivery rather than played losslessly via DCP?

Thanks again.
