GH2 GH2 workflow for HDMI monitoring while shooting 720p

Hi, I am wondering if anyone has come up with a satisfactory work flow for shooting 720p footage (for slomo) on the GH2 while using a monitor on the HDMI out to pull focus. I believe the HDMI out and recording still default to 1080i when a monitor is connected. If that is still true, can anyone suggest how to work around this most efficiently to use an external monitor to pull focus. Is it simply a matter of turning off the monitor before dropping into recording? Thanks for the thoughts here!

I'm wondering the same, it's hard to pull focus/operate a jib without a monitor. Are there any hacks/patches that work with hdmi plugged in, or is this an across-the-board no go?
 
Would like to know the answer to this question also. Its a bit stupid, you can't record 720p when using a external monitor. So it be be very nice if this could resolved one way or the other.
