GH2 GH2 Wedding - Full

Fantastic Gary - I had to stop right in the middle because I think that it looks amazing and I had a few questions to ask. Which lens are you using on the stablizer on the interior shots(bridal prep) and the ext shot as the brides maids walk towards the limo? They look so sharp and in focus. I just got the Panny 20mm this week but I find that if I leave it on auto focus it hunts too much and in manual it's just too tiny to get a grip and focus without getting my fingers in the lens.

I spent a few hours today at my local camera shop testing old lenses with low f-stops only to walk away confused. I mentioned the 85mm Rokinon but they never heard of it. What's your feeling on this lens - do you stop it down all the way during the reception/first dance?

I see that you have two lenses that share the same range(14-42/54mm) Which do you prefer kit lens or Oly? I ordered my GH2 without the kit lens(still haven't receive it from the Panasonic site.) I would have like to have tried it out because I'm leaning toward sharp images over the soft look from the older FD lenses.

Did you use the GH1 as a second cam at the reception? What ISO did you use? From what I saw the image looked very clean. I'm hoping to get the GH2 and use the GH1 as a B cam during the day.

You must have arms of steel to go handheld stablizer for what appears to be the entire bridal prep. I must say that the image is so clear and sharpand steady that it just amazes me! I got to say that this some of the best wedding footage from the GH1/GH2 that I've seen so far and your working with lenses without any built in OIS. Fantastic!! I would of bet that this film was made by someone using Canon gear. This gives me great hope cause I took the leap on the GH1 (no hack) late last year and was blown away by the image - but you nailed with your setup. I looking to get a similar image from mine.

And as for the edit, I was so engaged and I wouldn't have stopped if it weren't for the buffer having to reload( trouble with Verizon these days) The only quirk was the brides maid audio from the speech, it was a little distorted - not sure if it was recorded thjat way or problems from compressing for the web.

Sorry for the long post - but it's enlightening to see the GH1/2 excel in the area that which I'm traveling towards -Wedding Films! Keep up the great work and post more films when you can. Thanks - I'm off to watch the rest of the film!

Thanks. Bridal Prep on my camera was the 14-42mm kit lens, which autofocuses very well. Outdoor shots are easier to focus obviously since the f stop must have been around 11.

Rokinon has some noticeable fringing wide open, but nothing too bad for video. It was used by Camera 2 for the Parent Dances, Cake (head CUs and plate CU), and some dancing shots. Didn't use it too much. It would have been either wide open or at 2.0.

GH13 was used for 2nd camera and reception ISO was probably 8-1600.

Glidecam HD1000 is fairly light as the Lumix is a light camera, so it wasn't hard at all to keep it going the whole day.

14-54mm Oly I didn't use, but Camera 2 used it for the Ceremony, First Dance, and Groom Prep. I like the lens, but really want an OIS zoom with auto focus - so hopefully Panny announces their mythical fast wide zoom pretty soon.

45mm Macro was used for the bride's final toast, cake, and some mingling shots and for the part in the prep where she puts the necklace on her mom. Great lens. I originally thought the 45mm may not be worth it since the 14-54mm Oly has great Macro abilities, but I stand COMPLETELY CORRECTED - I love the 45mm Macro and is TOTALLY A LENS WORTH GETTING. OIS helps a great deal and the extra half inch closer it can focus is HUGE vs. the OLY. Not even close. The Oly can focus about 3 inches in front of the front glass element, and it's about 2.5 in front of the front glass element the 45mm macro can focus. I thought 54mm at 3 inches would be close enough macro vs. the 45mm at 2.5...but NO WAY. It's like twice has large on the 45mm if not more.

I'm contemplating selling the 14-54mm on ebay and hoping to get the 45mm now (I rented it and the 20mm pancake, which I used on the glidecam for the reception).

Gary - Again fantastic edit and what a quick one week turn around for such a complex multilayered timeshifted edit!! So you had the 14-42 and the 20 on the Glidecam - how difficult was it to rebalance after the lens change? Did you go back and forth between the lenses or just make the one change? Was it the 14-42 on the Glidecam during the bridal intro at the reception? That was so clear and focused with a hunt here and there - was focus set on facial tracking(?)??

The GH2 really does shine as a killer cam at weddings - the low light image it produces is amazing. I will have to think out my GH1 as B cam cause the GH2 really stood out. Would you say that the reception hall was dimly light or on the brighter side? Just a note - I read in one of your posts that you damaged your audio recorder - did you use the same one or something else, cause I was listening thru headphones and most of the speeches started to fall apart in quality.

Again excellent job - I will be rewatching it again in the near future. It was that engaging and it was the first time that I've seen footage from the commuion and it just fealt in place for this film. I love to see any other recent wedding films shot with your GH1/2 setup - such an inspiring film to watch. Thanks again - Mike

Thanks. Audio recorder wasn't broke, had to put it in front of the speaker and Over EQed it. I can take out some of that noise before final delivery. SoundTrack Pro never sounds the same in FCP.

I switched to the 20mm after the Ceremony just once. I had it on facial recognition and it works better on the GH2 than the GH1 by a long shot.
