GH2 GH2 producing duplicate .mts files: Why? How stop?

Hi

Loving my GH2. However, in my first use of it I recently conducted a number of interviews for a doc and found to my surprise that occasionally duplicate files were created.

Has anyone had the same happen to them?
Anyone know the reason why?
Anyone know how to stop it?

The GH2 doesn't make duplicate files. It can make spanned clips if any single recording goes longer than 4GB, but that's not a duplicate clip.

You probably are not importing the footage into your NLE using the proper AVCHD import function. What NLE are you using?

Hi Barry, thanks for the reply.

I am using a trial of FCPX. But I've also tried PP 5.0. Tho they appeared in PP with the same thumbnail, showing the exact same amount of time, with different file names (ex. 00000.mts, 00001.mts), played the same in the timeline, I think you're right they are spanned files. Playing them in VLC they were definitely 2 different files. Beeeeee-zarre.

As to FCPX, I'm importing using the 'import from camera' mode on files already on my hd (copied from card) and done step by step along with a Larry Jordan video.

I don't use FCP, so I can't comment on that, but in Premiere Pro you have to import using the "media browser". But you absolutely must have the entire PRIVATE directory, not individual MTS files.

Thanks for the reply!

I've imported in PP using the media browser and by just dragging and dropping. And I have all 3 folders, including PRIVATE, for all video shot.

Yes they are spanned... I recently successfully pulled off a 2 and a half hour live play recording with one take on a sandisk 64G extreme pro card. I was terrified but it worked flawlessly.
