Ive had this happen twice to me, i was rec. and the whole camera seemed to freeze up and i couldnt turn it off or anything, only way to turn it off
was to take battery out.

any help would be great

Lindquist,

Can you provide more details. Things like...

- What patch were you using?
- How long have you been using this patch?
- What camera settings ?
- What memory card ?
- How long had you been filming when this happened ?
- Was the video you recorded OK ?
- What lens were you using ?
- Have you tried using a different patch to see if the camera is OK with a lower bit-rate patch or with the original Panasonic firmware ?

, i used the 100m flow motion patch from personal view. and then 176m hack and they both did same thing to me.
ive been using the 100m patch just for today and it froze up around 5-10min of skating. I was filming
24p H, and FSH. i was using the 16gb 95/mbs card class 10 sandisk pro. video seemd to be ok. i was using the
14-140mm lens. I havnt tried any other patches besides the 176mb witch im not using right now and the 100mb
flow motion patch.

thanks for any info

It might be your memory card can't handle those settings. The 16 and 32GB Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I 95MB/s cards are SDHC, not SDXC like the 64GB version. It appears to make a big difference.

- First, I would try shooting with the Flow Motion patch using a different memory card ( must be a Class 10 card )

- Second, I would check to see if your camera is "freezing" when the video file on the memory card hits the 4 GB file size, as this is an indication of a spanning problem. ( video won't span with your memory card )

- Third, I would try shooting at 24P using the Flow Motion LOW setting ( which uses a lower bit-rate to record video )

If none of these things relate to your problem, then I would go back to the standard Panasonic 1.0 or 1.1 firmware and see how the camera behaves with the official Panasonic settings.

Let us know how it goes.

ok thanks, ive also been trying to monitor mbs from my files and i downloaded media inspector for mac for $3. it
says im getting 40mbs or so and it varies.

I'm trying out Flow Motion myself with a Sandisk 64 GB SDXC 95MB/sec card, to see if it will span properly in the HIGH setting. The Flow Motion patch is a variable bit-rate patch, where it only reaches the highest bit-rates when it needs the data bandwidth.

I am curious to know if the SDXC card memory controller is what makes high bit-rate spanning possible, as Lexar is just coming out with a 128 GB SDXC 60MB/sec card that will sell for about $250. ( they are also releasing a 64 GB SDXC 60MB/sec card that will sell for about $155 )

I just rec. about 5:25 min of 24p High setting on my gh2, no problems at all. i used my 95mbs card.

Did the video span on your card ? ( Is there more than one MTS file on a freshly formatted card ? )

Did the footage you shot have a lot of fast moving detail ? ( this will stress the card and raise the data-rate )

What lenses do you own ? ( The GH-2 does more work when it records with Panasonic lenses as it is applying image correction on the fly as you record. Fully manual lenses won't have this issue. )

Its one file, I went out side and walked around for 4 1/2 min. and gave it some motion. no crashing no nothing. and it is a Single MTS file on my card.
i was panning over trees and zooming in ect. and i used media info and it says file is 2.53gb for over 4 min of 24 H , and bitrate 67.5Mbs..
im using 14-140mm lens.

No one has a stable high bitrate patch that will work on 720 with the 14-140mm lens.
You may have had it on that.

The lockup does happen rarely on 24p. It happens less frequently with prime lens.

The 64gb 95mb sandisk allows spanning but, for the most part it will lockup at more or less the exact spot as a lower spec sdhc 30mb/sec
when dealing with 720/60.

The 16mb 95mb sec will rarely span, only the 64mb will do so reliably and only sandisk 95mb/sec so far. The cardbus
in the gh2 will not take advantage of the faster card. It spans because of the superior inner mechanics and inner file io of the
sandisk 95mbsec.

The higher bitrate the patch the more common the lockups. But 24p has been remarkably stable even at the highest bitrates.
720p60 is a whole other issue.

The flow motion patch is new, and should be treated as experimental.

I only shot in 24H, and FSH (1080/60i).
I shot 5 min of footage on 24H , no problems. it was also one file

Oh i didnt know its exp. patch. I jus shoot skating and random stuff for now till i start doing weddings on maui.
whats a good stable patch, that wont give me any problems with my sandisk pro 16gb 95mb/s?

OK, it looks like you are going to have to shoot for at least 7-8 minutes to reach the point where the video file MUST span ( I would shoot for 12 minutes to be sure ), and see if you get the same lock-up when you shoot for 12 minutes. ( I want to see if it is the file spanning that is causing the lock-ups on your camera )

As Chauncy says, it's possible that it's a quirk with Flow Motion that still has to be worked out.

ok ya ill test that, whats a better stable patch?

Try Aquamotion V2. 1080 24p spans on my Sandisk 30mb/s 32 gig card. 720 60p also works, though I haven't tested spanning. It even works with the 14-42 kit lens w/ autofocus on. It did freeze once w/ autofocus on at 3200 iso, but that's the only time it's happened. 1080 24p has never froze.

ok thanks, what about quantum v9b isnt that stable with my card too? whats mbps difference between quantum and aquamotion?
