GH2 Pre-orders

Cool. I want to order one of the kits, though, as this will be my first Lumix... Is there a spot I'm missing to order kits? Or are they just doing bodies?

Sweet! When is is suppose to arrive?
 
Seeing that they are charging tax in all 50 states, wouldn't it make more sense just to get it from another retailer with the basic lens for $999 and sell the lens since the body only will end up costing around $965 (give or take a few for your local tax rate)??

To me it would seem to make sense to just resell the lens if you don't need it.

And, if any of you have access to the Panasonic Direct corporate discount program, the price drops to $630 for the body only. It does not appear that there are any kits with lenses, but both black and silver bodies are available.

Just got off the phone with Leo's camera here in Vancouver. They got 4 in today and sold within a couple hours. They expect more next week. Nice to see Canada being thrown a bone for once!
 
Panasonic direct says "pre-order" not "order." FYI. I know many of you know that but clearly some don't.

Enormous thanks for posting that heads-up!

I just placed my pre-order through the Panasonic US corporate discount program @ $630 for black body-only GH2. Free shipping & no sales tax here.

Now, while this is great news (especially for me), however: As has been reported here many, many times, Panasonic US has a less-than-stellar record for customer service or timely shipping. I've ordered several items from them in the past and so far I've been lucky, but many of their customers have been burned. YMMV.

Needless to say, I'm not canceling my Amazon, Adorama or B&H pre-orders yet!

Just placed a pre-order through Panasonic Direct also. I bought GH1 from them and was surprisingly happy with their customer service and how quickly I received the camera (especially since it was during the no one can find a GH1 fiasco). Hopefully this is not going to turn into another one of those.

I may give Panasonic a call tomorrow to see if they have any further information about when it it might be shipped out. Will let everyone know if I have any further news. I'm located in NYC.

No, the corporate discount is designed for employees of companies which purchase a lot of Panasonic products. You need an employee login to make the purchase.

My order says the ship date is today, but I see no other evidence to suggest that will actually happen. Like Ben_B said, it's a "pre-order," so we'll see how quickly Panasonic fulfills the order.
 
How long did it take you guys to get order confirmation email from panasonic? that site is horrible. The online order status still doesn't show my order and no orders status email. Calling customer service and am on hold for the last 45 minutes.
 
That's why I asked that. I saw on the site that you have to pre-order it and got confused seeing people becoming very excited as if they were getting shipped.
 
My GH2 pre-order from Panasonic Direct Online says Estimated Ship Date : December.

How long did it take you to get your order confirmation email? I'm going on about 7 hours now and nothing after placing my order. I haven't even been able to see it's been placed online.
