GH2 Pre-orders

Ok, it's back for sale at Amazon again. I just ordered it and here is what it says:

"1 item will be shipped to My Name by Amazon.com. Estimated delivery December 29, 2010 - February 4, 2011"

Let's hope I get it before those dates, but whatever...

Just checked my Order Status at Amazon for the hell of it after I placed my order 5 mins ago. Here is what it says:

Shipment 1 of 1: The following item will arrive after December 25, 2010.
Not yet shipped Delivery Estimate: December 29, 2010 - February 4, 2011



 
Dude... I didn't say anything about AF. I said 14-140 isn't so popular among serious videographers. I didn't say all serious videographers hate the lens though. I've seen good videos done by the kit lens. Yeah the lens is optimized for video. So what? It's a consumer grade lens. It doesn't give enough reason for Panny to keep the price of GH2 high.

I say Panny will fail if they fail to bring in more soccer dads and moms. Lower the price. Make better products. Update firmwares. Don't kill firmware hacking. Yeah 24Mbps on 720p60!!! and all other modes including ext tele conv!!!

Are you listening Panny? Wake up!!!

At least theirs choice. You can always buy the body only or the one with the cheaper lens for $900 and $1000 respectively, Realistically I'd also want the camera to cheaper just like I want any other camera to be cheaper.
 
I'm planning to buy a GH2 with my T2i. I'm glad to have alot more options now with lenses and that i don't have to buy a near 2K L glass.
I don't have a prob with the $500 for the 14-140 but i understand what you're saying stonebat. That Voigtlander is the one to get.

Consumer grade lens? The thing is tack sharp at all apertures and focal lengths....
 
If it's not a consumer grade lens, I wouldn't be able to afford it. The street price is $600. That includes a full one year warranty. I heard about bad quality control. When I get it, I'd try careful pixel peeping. Build quality... not exactly pro grade. It's a good value at the price. But that can't justify high GH2 body cost @899.99. When GH1 first came out, the kit lens was 849.99. Subtract 100 from the lens price for the kit discount. GH1 body was $750. That sounds like a fair price for GH2 body. Add $600 for the kit lens. $1350 makes sense. I hope bhphotovideo and adorama lower the price soon.

BTW I speculate brighter zooms will be very expensive. $1500? I'd stick to f1.8 Canon ENG zoom. I can't afford to pay for overpriced goods.

Hang in there...I'm sure that once these manufacturers come to their senses and begin pricing their goods based upon what you can afford, the world will be a much better and more funner place. :)

Interesting. I placed my GH2 pre-order with Adorama on _10/23_ and I've heard bupkis from them concerning when they might ship it.

Was the reply you received from Adorama in response to your email or phone call, or did they send it unprompted?

Through an email I sent out yesterday and heard back from them this morning. I followed up to see if that's when I can expect it to ship to me, or when they get it in. So we'll see! Keep you posted.
 
Update from Adorama when asked whether they would recieve or ship the orders. Looks like they'll get them in within 2 weeks, then ship out:

"Hi,

we hope to get it in within 10-14 days

and ship out all orders"
 
Just received a call from Mathers of Lancashire (UK) saying that they're receiving their batch of GH2's tomorrow, and that mine will be with me for Friday morning. It was pre-ordered a couple of weeks ago - it's worth noting, they have the best price (that I could find) of £1049 for the 14-140 kit.
 
That's interesting that even though GH2 was "officially" delayed in UK, people will start getting it sooner than us on the other side of the pond, where there was no "official" delay.

Ordered mine from UK Digital Clitheroe, said there's are coming Friday or are in-stock Fri, have sent my money to them! so am hoping they come through for Saturday delivery, but the Weather is horrendous in the North East, everything at a stand-still so I think it will be next week for myslef, keep you posted on that but we seem to have delivery progress in the UK, at least a batch has surfaced anyway.

Yeah, I expect that the weather 'chaos' means that I'm more likely to receive on either Saturday or Monday.
 
I contacted Provantage about my GH2 order that I placed on Nov. 17th and the person that took care of my order actually just replied back giving me a December 6th for warehouse stock and few additional days for me to receive it.
 
I asked @PanasonicDirect on Twitter last night if they'd be selling the GH2 any time soon (I get a Panasonic Direct discount), and had just about given up hope, but today: "The LUMIX #GH2 will be available for purchase on Panasonic.com today!"

I just ordered it. Looks like body only for $899.

I was also tempted to order the 14-140mm kit lens, but I can't remember; is there supposed to be a new version of the lens for the GH2? Looks like the model Panasonic's selling is the GH1 lens.
