GH2 or TM700?

Having both a GH13 and a SD700 I can tell you this...lowlight - hacked GH1 with f1.7 pancake is vastly superior...noise free, clean image showing more than my eye can see....actually with my 14-45mm at iso 800 is still a lot better...sorry these are just my findings.

when you start to up the "db" from wide open (and im not convinced on the f1.5 value btw the gh1 at f1.7 is brighter in same conditions) on the 700 the image gets softer, colours start to washout and grain increases (im not talking evening shots...im talking general dim indoor shots in the day) but this is normal for a camcorder like this its difficult to shoot above wide open and keep detail...also in 50/60p mode the codec can breakup a lil bit in fast movement.
So its not perfect.

but dont get me wrong

The 600/700's have truly amazing detail in good light (although looks a bit unnatural and videolike to me its clarity kicks ass!)...superfast AF,zoom and stablisation phenomenal...and for a consumer camcorder...one of the best for lowlight , image etc...
but in comparison to dslrs with bigger sensors no chance...in comparison to a GH2? no comparison.

but if you want hassle free shooting...portability with great sometimes astounding footage...go for the 700...want the best image in all conditions...and freedom to be experimental...get a dslr with a standard lense and a fast one.
This is what seperates camcorders from vdslrs...but hopefully one day the gap will narrow!

I agree that for low light shooting, a GH1 or GH2 will eat up a TM700 once you put a fast lens on but for daylight shooting, this depends on what;s your definition of better.

For me, I like the nearly artifice free images. I mean it doesn't suffer the moire and aliasing issues that the GH series cameras have and I don't need to compare the moire and aliasing to a Canon DSLR. Now that's a huge
difference! On top of that you get a full 1080 resolution and full 60 frames per second for unmatched clarity. resolution and natural sharpness. Never mind the fact that I'd also be able to do slow motion scenes in 1080p rather than 720p It's crazy shooting in 1080 24p and having to either lower that resolution to 720p or up ress the slow motion resolution to 1080p.

I do own a GH1 and will be upgrading to the GH2 for many reasons. I just got to be patient for my pre-order to arrive. Still, I've seen so many native clips and well as non native videos that I really need to finally get a TM700 as well. For photo taking abilities, Shallow DOF scenes, and low light shooting that where the GH2 comes in and for most daylight shooting, without question, that's where the TM700 comes in.

Absolutely...the 700 has amazing detail image and excels in good light.
To me the GH is best of both worlds (if you want low light, great image good light)...without a doubt if you can have both 700 & GH youre really eating the whole cake! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Yeah Canon's DSLR's alaising... forgot that!

I agree and the GH2 should be a great companion to my TM700.

How are your first findings?
Hello florisvaneck. I have my TM700 and love it. It is smaller than I expected, which is good for everyday use but kind of bad when doing paid gigs (clients will think is a handycam... and it is).
Image stabilization is awesome, even better than GH1's kit lens, which is pretty good. This helps a lot since the camera is so light.
Zooming and keeping focus while zooming, and also having stepless aperture changes, work perfectly. Also in low light TM700 appears much better than GH1+kit lens, this I have only tested looking at LCDs, will post samples next week!
