GH2 official discussion thread

Hey roei z, I never bought international like this. Can you tell me the cons of getting through them, and is the price still $900. Thanks for responding so quick.

yea it was my first time too. send me a private message with all your questions and i'll answer more thoroughly.

It would be nice to have some test footage showing the dynamic range of the GH2 because I think that it is more important than very high Iso shots, albeit the person who intent to shoot most of his time at night. Looking at the af-100 forum, everyone here should be concern by it (I am not saying that the camera is plagued by those ugly blown highlights we have seen until a final version is out) . As they share a lot I think it would be nice to see some example in normal to contrasty (sunlit shots) and with human beings. Because the Japan test their would be very very disappointing near unusable example of highlight roll-off and skin tone. Again thanks for the test everyone.

for some reason and please hope no one takes this the wrong way, but the highlights seem to roll of better on the gh1s and 2s from the small amount of footage I've seen floating out there. Thats just to my eyes. I 2nd some dynamic range test as well.

Reem12- Thats exactly what has been irking me the past few days, I have been shooting with a hacked gh1 for some time now and have been downloading every af100 clip and .mts I can find.

My hacked gh1 looks like it out does the af100 in color accuracy, skin tones, highlight handling and overall sharpness by a long shot. And after downloading every .mts I can find from the GH2, it looks even better than my hacked gh1 (in regards to highlight handing, iso, color and sharpness).

A real shame because I was #2 in line for a preorder on an af100, but I cancelled it today. I just cant justify buying it now because I would leave it at home everytime and use a GH1/2 instead (unless someone specifically asked for it).

I think what may have (probably) happened is that panasonic video division made such a huge marketing ploy about ZERO aliasing and moire that they over compensated the OLPF by making it way too strong- which causes the image to be very soft (over compensated that by adding extra sharpening) and the from the gamma, color and overall look it seems they are sending the signal through some old DSP tech from the HVX era. I hate to say that stuff but the proof is in the videos.

hunter I just watched a clip on vimeo from the gh2, and phillip bloom and I think some of the zacuto guys are in their and it just blew me away. It looked so clean with colors being in their proper place, with what seemed to be a wide dynamic range. My 5d does not produce these rich colors and dynamic range. This looked closer to film than the af100 and my 5d imo. I will try and buy at least 3 of these babys and slowly invest in great glass. I think my quest for the look I want may be over for at least a while.

Oh I forgot about that link hunter. Thats the one the started me off. It looked like a bright day and peoples white clothes were not blown out. That is probably the best dynamic range I've seen on any of the dslrs to date. Exciting times for the indie world. I just hope i get one with the same quality.

tell me the exact camera settings to shoot and i'll test it on 24P (be specific on details)

Try
Smooth, -2 on all except color
Ie on High
and expose for the highlights (underexpose a bit to avoid clipping, ie will bring up the shadows)
-Hunter's settings
Also try Standard with color -2 as well
