GH2 official discussion thread

Just found this but my sound is off so I'm not sure if it's useful or not.

We need much more detailed photo of MB.
And back side.

As it can be some bad news (ala integrated RAM and ROM placed on top or below main LSI).

2 interesting things:

I want to use C-mount lenses that currently vignette. if that digital zoom feature is variable, say 10%. i can crop the vignette out in camera!!! If this is true? Still getting 1080p

So was bluetooth just a rumor? What would be the use? remote control?

And it says on their site it has AVCHD vs. AVCHD lite on the GH-1. Can anyone explain the difference?

Does anyone know if the European version has 25p? Can' t seem to find any place 25p and even 30p 1080 resolution.

from panasonic german site

1.920 x 1.080 Pixel, 24p (24H: 24Mb/s, 24L: 17Mb/s)
1.920 × 1.080, 50i (Sensor-Output 50p) (FSH: 17Mb/s, FH: 13Mb/s)AVCHD/HD
1.280 x 720, 50p (Sensor-Output 50p)(SH: 17Mb/s, H: 13Mb/

If that's correct PAL users can't shoot 25p at full HD using the top 24mbps. That would be disappointing.

Guys, please remember variable framerates.
May be 200% from 50fps will be exactly 25?
But still no details if variable rates work at 50i mode.
May be just old shutter speed trick will work (25fps from sensor in 50i wrapper).

Hi, i plan to go saturday to Photokina, maybe i could take some more pics

That would be awesome.

Do you think you could check on the live HDMI output also?

I can't tell from any of the available literature if it continues to send a full high definition signal out the HDMI jack while the camera is recording to the memory card.

And whether or not the camera's build in LCD and Viewfinder are still usable when you plug in the HDMI cable during recording.

(The reason I'm wondering is because Sony's VG10 shuts off the camera LCD when you plug in the HDMI cable, and I'm really hoping Panasonic didn't do that too.)

Many questions have been answered already due to the now available information.

I will go to the Photokina tomorrow.
Interesting for me would be, what questions do you still have after you have read the news about this camera.

I will try to film with the GH2 and to get original footage.
See if it works out.

So if you still have questions that are not answered, send them today still.

Please post them here:

Good point, let's keep our finger crossed . GH2 now up on Panasonic UK website. PAL AVCHD specs:

Motion Image (AVCHD : PAL)[Full HD] 1920×1080, 24p (24H:24Mbps,24L:17Mbps) / [Full HD] 1920×1080, 50i (sensor output is 50p) (FSH:17Mbps, FH:13Mbps/AVCHD) / [HD] 1280 x 720, 50p (sensor output is 50p)(SH:17Mbps, H:13Mbps/AVCHD) / *2

So i will check this.
As i understand and read GH2 HDMI output is better then Canons or other VDSLR's. I'm not sure about 4:2:2 sampling.

Motion Image (AVCHD : PAL)[Full HD] 1920×1080, 24p (24H:24Mbps,24L:17Mbps) / [Full HD] 1920×1080, 50i (sensor output is 50p) (FSH:17Mbps, FH:13Mbps/AVCHD) / [HD] 1280 x 720, 50p (sensor output is 50p)(SH:17Mbps, H:13Mbps/AVCHD) / *2

So theres no 25p mode??

Noel, Vitaliy suggests this might not be the problem for us it appears to be at first sight:

Can the intelligent dynamic range option be considered as a "cinelike" gamma mode thus giving an s-shape gamma curve?

So I guess it can really record in native 24p like a hacked GH1. It would still be nice to know the GH2 is hackable. Then again, if it proves to be, you should expect to see the camera being hard to find just like the GH1 when it got released. If not, than the resale value of a hackable GH1 will be pretty decent if you decide to upgrade to the GH2.

I don't think this was posted yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVnUeEdYQrI <-- it is posted already.

The English Panasonic rep seemed to imply that the 24p mode and HDMI were put in there after listening to feedback. If they don't include 25p in EU specs or in a firmware update, they've dropped a tiny clanger.
