GH2 GH2 & Lilliput monitor advice, please....

I've just got a GH2 and a 5" Lilliput GL569 monitor.

I've previously used GH1's, so have no experience with monitor use, and would like to check a couple of things to ensure I haven't got a faulty one.

Firstly, it displays the image in preview/record/playback - no problem.

However, it has four function buttons - two of which don't appear to work, and I don't know if that's just because of the GH2 and the signal it produces.

Ratio button is fine - switches between 4:3 and 16:9 (default)

Colour mode button is also fine - toggles RBG/Mono/Colour.

Underscan/Overscan button - does nothing, just blanks out the screen and says 'no signal detected.

Frame button (supposed to produce a 'safe' frame to let you know what's being recorded) doesn't work, as above, 'no signal detected'

On the plus side, the monitor displays a full image (no black bars) that is identical to the camera LCD image - so, presumably, no real need for the two missing features?

I'd just like to check with anyone else using a Lilliput monitor with a GH2 to see if mine is dodgy and needs returning.

Many thanks.

I got a lilliput for my 7D back in 2010. I was unimpressed. It worked, but the aspect ratio can never be displayed correctly on it.

I had a look at your thread and I can say, hand on heart, that the image on the GL569 isn't streched at all. It is, in fact, an exact replica of what appears on the LCD.

I'm very pleased with it - small enough to be portable, large enough to be useful. I think it was overpriced for what it is (£144) but perhaps not as overpriced as its more exotic peers :cheesy:

When you see a brand new Samsung 21" LED TV for sale on Ebay for £150, you know that every DSLR monitor purchaser is having their arms and legs ripped out!

On the plus side, it's a delight not be peering at the LCD, or through the VF, or even into a Letus LCD VF - manual focus is easy (a benefit of the smaller 5" screen, I suppose - less real estate for the limited pixel count to inhabit)

All I really want to be sure of is whether it's doing everything it's supposed to - and not having had a monitor or a monitor-capable camera before, I thought it was worth asking.

One thing I've noticed - during recording the screen is completely free of icons. I thought I'd read that persistent icons were one of the problems (along with random cadence) that prevented use of an external HDMI recorder?

Good to hear its accurate.

Thanks - I'm just relieved that it works -;) - I read several sad tales about GH2's being very picky with the sort of monitor/cable they would work with, so to find it virtually plug & play is extremely welcome.

I can only assume that your problem related to the 7D being a 4:3 screen? - although I'm surprised that the aspect switch on the Lilliput didn't correct the image properly.

It's a pity you're not in Lincolnshire, rather tthan several thousand miles away, or you'd be more than welcome to try the 5" screen on your 7D to see if it worked.

Does the 7D have that record blackout problem? - according the incredibly skimpy Lilliput 'handbook' there's supposed to be something n the 569 menu to correct that.

I actually sold my 7D a few months back and have been using a T3i (600D?)...which I just sold for a GH2, which arrived today. Battery is charging as I write this.

I originally got an external monitor simply due to the fixed LCD on the 7D. Once I got the T3i, with an articulating screen, I found myself hardly using the monitor anymore. Although, I really ought to...

It looks sexy in my avatar though, no? :cheesy:
