Hi guys.

I have question about lens kit in Gh2. Is the cheaper lens good for video production. Propably i will never use 10x zoom in bigger lens, so do you think 14-42 would be good for video? Is the continous focus works as fast as in 14-140 lens? I am new so sorry if my questions are damm. I know taht 14-140 is designed specially for HD recording but 14-42 is brighter, so maybe it would be better for recording movies?

2. One more question. Do you think that gh2 will need hacking. I mean if 24mbps would be enough, what would you expect from hacking? Couse gh2 has 24p native so it doesn't have to be hacked. Only higher bit rate? If i am correct US version doesn't have 30 minutes recording time limit, right?

The cheaper lens is crummy in terms of optical quality and is not an HD optimized lens which means the auto-focus won't be as fast or silent in video. I'd recommend the 14-140mm and some fast primes (like the 20mm f/1.7, and some Nikon primes with an adaptor.) That said I will be buying the GH2 with the 14-42mm since I already have the 14-140mm, though I don't suspect I'll use it too often.

2. No and probably can't. N/A. Yes. Not as high as some would like but B-frames, etc, in 24p mode should make it damn good, plus full HDMI out for a recorder (maybe.) Yes, no limit.

Thanks for reply. Propably I will buy Gh2 when it appear in the USA official (i think about B&H). I have very old zenit slr camera. I don't know exactly which model and what lens does it have but do you think i could use it with gh2. not for movie but just for photo. It can be quite bright lens. Of course with adapter. I know that i would heave to use manual focus but i am asking only about opportunities.

Your Zenit probably use m42 or Pentax K mount, you can find cheap adapters for both on ebay. I use Canon FD, Nikon F, Konica AR, Minolta MC, Olympus OM lenses with their adapters without issue.

If it's a 58mm Helios 44-x, you will be pleasantly surprised, both for video and photo. You just have to get the right adapter.

Hi there. It is Helios but not exactly that helios what you said but it is Helios 44m - 4 2/58 or something like that. I talked to my father in Poland and he said everything what i wrote you guys. I know it's not propably excelent lens but it has no zoom so maybe i can use it. Please gime me your opinion.

Yes, that's the one! I don't have any footage at the moment, but here is a link to Chris Watson's post in the Canon forum:

It's very much a character lens, but if you like that character, it has it in spades. You will need an adapter that pushes down a pin on the lens to allow for manual aperture, so keep that in mind.
