GH2 is non-existent in Australia

I cannot find this camera anywhere in Australia. I've written to Panasonic Australia two times now, and they have not replied. I've called countless stores, emailed countless online retailers - nobody knows what I'm talking about, or they simply say "sorry, that camera does not exist in our database".

This camera is a ghost down here in Oz...

Think I'm gonna have to just go with the 60D...
 
I have been contacting all the major Australian retailers over the last month every week to get an update. (Seems they are sick of me now and have said they will email me when they get details).

Basically they all say that they have no idea when they are coming into Australia as Panasonic have no idea either. It could be sometime in December still.

Someone else on this board contacted the website in the posting above and they didn't have a date.

Could someone in Australia give them a call and see if they do in fact have any in stock and maybe ask when they are getting the kit with the 14-140mm in stock?

Ted's said they're expecting stock before Xmas.

Gerry Gibbs' said only taking pre-orders. Panasonic hasn't given them a delivery date.

i'm less interested in stock date, more interested in how much they are gonna rob us for it.

If you guys get a chance hit them up on fb or twitter and ask them when they will be expecting it and when will us pal users be getting 25p 24Mbit..lol Myself and a couple of others have been pushing the 25p on them so the more the merrier to the point that they get sick of it and do something about it =) last i heard on panasonicAU twitter, they announced gh2 release very soon but never gave a date.
 
I've pre-ordered through Gerry Gibbs, we'll see how well that turns out. My fear is that some retailers will get orders and some not, with me being stuck with a pre-order for a camera they may not see for months.

I notice that there are a few HK models for sale on ebay. My understanding is that HK models are usually PAL with english menus, but it is possible they are just reselling the japanese model with japenese menu and ntsc frame rates.
 
we do get the short end of the stick here. I remember when i was getting mine last year from camera house, was waiting for shipment in october 09 and you know how many units they ended up giving to the whole of australia for that lot, 12...lol.
 
I was in Ted's in Sydney yesterday and you would think the GH2 had never been announced.
I'm concerned about the price too. Hoping it will be on a par with US average price (plus GST of course).
 
Im not surprised. when i was window shopping for my gh1 no one knew what a gh1 was, they all had to look it up in the system.

im quite content now to just buy a PAL grey import. if you can get it at the US prices body only, thats under 1k so no customs GST applied, even for an extra 100 US for 14-42 its still under 1K...lol be interesting to see what price the grey market will be asking.
 
Just a heads up for fellow Aussies. Spotted a GH2 w/ 14-140mm in Melbourne CBD yesterday. They wanted AU$2399! Told them they're dreamin'. Sales rep was trying to push discounted GH1, said GH2 will be available mid Jan 2011.
 
I called Panasonic - they don't a release date or any information - no wonder we buy OS
