GH2 in stock thread

That's it, Panasonic.

That's it, Panasonic.

That's it. I am fed up with Panasonic, and I'm going a different direction. That's a bluff; I have to have the GH2.
But, I am extremely frustrated with their supply tease.

The only information on a time frame that Panasonic Direct gave was, "1-3 business days." I knew at the time that it wouldn't be true, but I didn't expect to wait a full month, and as it seems now, probably a lot longer.

Why they would bother to promote and release a camera that they cannot yet supply just to antagonize their eager customers, I do not understand.

But, it seems I'm stuck waiting because, aside from the fact that I've already bought the 20mm lens, it offers too many advantages over its competitors for me to consider an alternative.

So, that's it Panasonic. You win. I am angry, but you will get my money anyway. I just want my Camera!

im in the same boat. but I think micro 4/3 will always be for people who treat this sort of thing like a hobby. It is sad! Panasonic had a great chance to play in the big leagues and failed. If this is how they treat their pro devision the will simply not keep up with the other boys in the room. To bad! I wanted this camera!

I'm just frustrated by the lack of accurate information from PD--and now it's a lack of information altogether. That, combined with the misleading web promotion. Do you think they changed their policy of giving us some information when we call to none because they are just truly clueless or because they are recognizing that the clues they have are not reliable enough to give out to customers?

I'm having a hard time understanding how the supply of this camera is so lacking in the US. I'm ready to buy right now dammit.

The reason i have heard from several sources, including a top authorized Panasonic dealer on the W.Coast who is in regular contact with them is that Panasonic is addressing the issues (ie BANDING, etc) that many people were experiencing with the earlier batch of cameras.

Seems like theirsupply is trickling into all their resellers as the stock becomes available. I had 2 orders placed (on with Panasonic EPP and one with Adorama) - then I checked here http://www.kenmorecamera.com/ and found they had 2 in stock and grabbed it.

As frustrating as it is, i think we can all be glad that Panasonic apparently is addressing some of the issues people discovered with the earlier batch of cameras.

Best bet, I would say, is to call all these "mom and pop" stores (ie. the above link) and see who's got any in stock. My bet is there are a lot more small shops like that one around that have one or two on the shelves.

Anyhow, good luck to everyone - hope they arrive soon!

Thanks iflight Kenmore's site is already on my list of sites I check everyday thanks to this forum. You make a good point about making calls to them, I'm going to try that later today.

Thanks so much for this post ... Just called and got one ordered! Finally. Now to cancel my 3 other orders (Pansonic Direct, Unique Photo AND Adorama) ...

So I just called Panasonic Direct to cancel and the lady asked if it was because it had not shipped yet. I said yes and that I found it in stock somewhere. She was as shocked as I was and asked who had them in stock so she could refer other callers. Soooooo get-em while they last folks! Mine will be here Friday :)

Ok. But if I find a dealer with one does that mean I've found one of the first batch or one of the supposed second batch without the banding? I know no one knows the answer to that, but just how my paranoid brain works.

Okay.. If you find a dealer with them in stock shoot me a quick PM and I'll find out if it's the new batch or the older batch.

Alright. Someone tell me if this is feasible or not. I am still waiting for over a month from panasonic epp. So like everyone else here I have been searching for other sources.

I logged on to UK amazon at amazon.co.uk site with my US amazon account and they have the GH2 w/ 14-42mm in stock. page says its 799 gbp but when I add to cart it is 666 gbp. Added to cart. put in my address in california. total to have it shipped to cali is $1143 priority express which is 3-4 days.

It does not look like there are any delivery restrictions to the U.S. It lets me go through all the ordering steps, but I have not placed the order and pulled the trigger b/c 1- I am not in a rush to get the camera, although it would be nice to have. 2- I don't know if the warranty carries over. 3- I don't know if there is a difference between US and UK model.
So, if you are truly in a rush to get this and want to take one for the team to try this, it may be a viable option for you. Just post and let us know how it goes.

i think there is a difference between the us and uk version. the uk version might have a 29:59 max recording time because any longer and it qualifies as a video camera and not a stills camera and therefore would be taxed higher. or something like that..

PD Update:

As of yesterday they said 1-2 weeks ( I ordered in first week in Jan 2010), where they were saying 2-3 weeks before!

Damn! I was in the shower and missed the UPS delivery from PD. Guess I'll be going out to Van Nuys tonight on my scooter to pick it up.
