GH2 hack

Those new ISO's aren't anything to write home about IMO. The hack is very nice especially with moving footage, but should not be your main reason for choosing this as a Bcam. I recently completed a film with the AF100 and hacked GH2 (somewhere around 70mbs I think?), and I can't even tell which shots were from which camera in the final edit, and I shot the damn thing. It is the perfect B camera for the AF100 and with the prices dropping I would encourage you to get one, you won't regret it! However, you should not be purchasing it simply because it was hacked to the specs according to the article, they only improve the camera, not change its basic functionality. And make sure you spend as much on media as the camera body if you want to shoot the Driftwood-176 hack professionally; 10 minutes on a class 10 SD card, and only Panasonic Gold and Sandisk Extreme seem to be guaranteed to work.

also do the hacks allow the camera to shoot in 25p europe, I understand straight from the factory its 24p

One question I never seem to have answered is if these new hacks allow the GH2 to span reliably.

It's been awhile since I hacked mine, but I only went to 32 mbs because higher rates proved unreliable.

I don't care about media costs, but can't use a camera professionally if it's not trustable.

On another note, while I love the GH2 for B-Roll, it lacks the dynamic range of the AF100, so I never use it on the same shots.

From what I've read, the lower bitrate hacks do, like the 32mb, 44, 66..... but the 100+mb ones don't.
 
Somewhere around the 50mbps area the clips stop spanning. I think we got somewhere in the neighborhood of two or three minutes in 176 AVCI this morning before the recording stopped. The spanning issue is something very important to keep in mind! If you do pro work with your hacked camera, always make sure you have the appropriate settings on the camera before you show up to the set. I get infuriated when a GH2 comes to my set and someone who's getting paid a day rate to work with the camera, has to spend a half hour or more getting the camera to the right firmware. Ever since the hack was released this happens all the time, and when you shoot multiple long interviews, three minutes for the subject to answer a question just does not work.
 
I live in the UK and have the opputinity to buy a lumix gh 1 camera from the US, do any of you guys know if they: 1) can all be hacked? and 2) be hacked so i can film 25fp pal?

Yes, from all reports that I've seen, all GH1's can now be hacked. Unlike the GH2, which does not support PAL 1080p25, the GH1 can be hacked to work in either interlaced or progressive mode in FHD 25p. Yo lpowell, Just to squash a persisting rumor on the forums, there's no plan to try and hack the Af100, right? People seem to be holding their breaths hard for that one hard...
I figure settle the matter now

I've asked Vitaliy via PM, and as far as I know, he has yet to express any interest in hacking the AF100.

But if Santa Claus were to leave one under his tree this Christmas, I really can't foresee what might come to pass...
 
Jan has already said there is no pathway to the codec board on the AF100.
Uncompressed 4:2:2 is already available via the SDI output so what more do you want?

+1. Why would you need to hack the Af100? The reason the gh2 needs a hack is because it's crippled. Even with the hack, it's crippled. Hook an external recorder up to an AF100 and you don't need a hack. Move on....
 
I would like a hack that gave me 75 and 100 fps on the AF102.

I know ...I am dreaming.

Forget I mentioned it.
