The girl did not enjoy - just a test

my tests with the 3.61D Ptools have failed rather badly
too much noise - picture is worse than the original

Therefore, here again a comparison with the original 1080/24pN of Ptools 3.60D (at present is better for the 24pN!)

lol, after only one day ptools 3.61d you say it failed? i think it`s to soon and the gh2 will blow the gh13 away...

Very interesting comparison - they are indeed quite close. The close up comparison had different exposures, so I didn't really look at it. However, I see significantly more fine detail in the GH2vk than on the GH13 shots in the wider shots. Note the bench details on screen left in the 2nd and 3rd comparisons, and the road detail on screen right in the last comparison.

I don't see a great difference in the amount of noise, only that the GH2vk seems to have finer texture while the GH13's is slightly more 'blocky'.

Actually there are too many variables. These are different cameras. Also, based on your first shot of GH2VK video here, the exposure was different. No mention of ISO. (well unless you mentioned it in the audio. I did not have the sound up)... so the test is actually no good.

Also, remember that noise is inherent in the analog capture medium. You're more apt to see fine noise that would be normally masked by the codec compression.

The 'new' amount of noise in the darks is actually good - stronger compression will kill it, of course, but at the extend of detail, plus introducing macro blocking. The more you grade or color correct those, the more visible the macro blocking will get. Noise can be controlled quite easy in post and it can even help fighting 8bit banding issues which are very present in the GHs. I prefer a little more noise in the shadows over macro blocking anytime.

EDIT: OK, Stevet already said it

Not a huge difference, really. I'll be carrying on with my hacked GH1's..

@Stevet - can I ask what you mean by analogue capture medium?

Were both cameras at the same ISO, lens, aperture, shutter speed, exposure, film mode, etc? If not all identical, then this serves no purpose.

Here is my GH2 42Mbit hack test

After reading about the GH2 hack and looking at Andrew Reid's footage - I went for it.
More information here.

This was shot with 20MM pancake.
Smooth mode all -2 except saturation.
Log & Transfer in Final Cut Pro.

That's the type of shots were you really see the difference. GH13 is still a great cam but this is definately a step further.

Well, it is over for the GH13. That is reality. We move on and get the next camera which is undoubtedly better. It is a true waste of time and energy to compare the GH2 hacked at this moment because it is at the the testing stage. Once the dust settles and Vitaly and company work out the kinks it will all of sudden become the camera to have. That's how this things work out. So everybody out there relax and enjoy the process. The final result will be a much robust GH2.

24pN the results are better with Ptools 3.60D
the 3.61D is not good - my opinion

bad frames at the beginning is bull sh**

Sure..
The image sensor can not capture 1's and 0's... LOL! Sure in the end it's in a digital domain, but not at its first light level that strikes the sensor.
The image sensor is an analog device, like an audio preamp that records audio, there will be a noise floor. The same goes for video.

That's a no brainier. But everybody have a choice now: GH13 or GH2 Stalin. Whatever makes you happy. But common sense says that just getting rid of the awful noise pattern in low light and high ISO makes the GH2 a much better tool. Better codec implementation, new sensor and 24pN complete the argument for those that really know what this all means.

Like I said before: A no brainer. GH2 is much improved in so many areas out of the box. Much better than the GH13. The hack will make the GH2 an excellent tool. Go again Vitaly!

one argument - is correct
The lowlight of GH2 is better

Is her chain around her neck aliasing that bad in the original? It won't let me download the original to look at it, but wow, it was pretty bad on my screen.

Much better in low light overall and the correction of the noise pattern is a great improvement. 24pN out of the box also is. New sensor and improved codec implementation, well, a much better camera.
