GH2 Hack question: how do you calculate your data rate?

Just downloaded the hack and amazed at the quality of the video in 1080p/24 and 720p/60. Just donated to Vitaly's project today as well. This hack is priceless!

But what software are people using to calculate their data rates?

For example in my Quicktime Info window, my 1080p clip says 111 Mbps, but my clip is 44 seconds long at a size of 612MB. So 612MB / 111 Mbps, means that I'm getting less than 14 Mbps. But that can't be. I know I have the hack enabled because now the first second of any clip I shoot is always pixelated. No problem about that. A minor inconvenience given the amazing quality of the video with this hack.

But what is the best software to use to calculate your GH2 hacked clips data rate.

Thanks in advance.

Mb means megabit, which is 1/8th of a MB (megabyte). Lower data rates tend to be stated in bits instead of bytes. (24 Mbps sounds more impressive than 3 MB/s).

612 megabytes / 44 seconds = 13.9 megabytes per second * 8 = 111 megabits per second.

Your clip is indeed 111 Mbps.

111 MB/s is Red Epic territory.

Thanks everybody. Red Epic Territory? Good God! That's incredible! I wonder if Vitaliy might even succeed in hacking the GH2 to the point that it can shoot 60 fps at 1080.

Does anyone know if he's working on a hack for the AF100 as well???

We are using StreamParser that is writtent by Chris. Very useful tool.

P.S. As for our server. We are down because of some big problems in our hoster netword. Will be up soon.

"Thanks everybody. Red Epic Territory? "

You seem to have missed the lesson on bytes vs. bits.

Still -- I had no idea the GH2 was hacked at all. I thought Panasonic put up a wall and wasn't allowing it anymore.

Is it stable?

As far as I can tell, yes, it's stable. No problems encountered so far except for the inevitable pixelated first second, but I'm sure it will be fixed in time. I'm overjoyed with this hack. I just can't believe the detail I'm getting out of my footage. Will plan on doing some green screen tests soon and posting it. Can't wait to see how much better I'm able to key my footage with such a high bit rate.

Just analyzed my file with Media Inspector and it confirms 115 Mbps, but it also lists that file as an MPEG-4. When I imported the file into FCP7 via the Log & Transfer window, I was importing as Apple ProRes 422. SO how can it be MPEG-4??? Am I missing something here?

Please see the Media Inspector's report on that file here:
