GH2 guy; rented an AF-100 for this weekend...

citizen kane must be the epitomy of amateur videos

Perhaps I really just mean the "live look". Even with the GH2/t2i/AF100 I've used stopped down to F/8 and everything in focus it still didn't look like a handycam. All apologies :)

no auto iris, no servo zoom, no image stabilization, no auto focus.

You are so right, there was nothing easier than using my Aaton. However, it sat perfectly on the shoulder, thats what it was designed to do. The 101 is awkward to use like that, it could never be as easy to hand hold.

Youʻre an Aaton shooter? My hatʻs off to you! Iʻve never used one, but it is my goal to have a video camera that is as functional and comfortable to use as Godardʻs baby.

Regarding the Panasonic: I agree with you. Iʻm not sure if youʻve seen my posts of my camera with Olofʻs Aaton-like right hand grip and the little palm rest under my follow focus. It really does work pretty well. But, if the Redrockmicro microEVF ever ships, the AF100 will sit on my shoulder, and I WILL have my "HD Aaton!"

All the best, my friend.

I agree Jeff.. The AF100 is a great run and gun. When I've had to be very mobile then this is the rig that I have used. Poof, just pick it up and go... all nicely self contained.

I consider myself "semi-pro" because I (still) shoot more for my own enjoyment & entertainment than I do worthwhile paid jobs, but I have to smile a bit, remembering the day I lifted my AF100 out of the box for the first time . . . I wondered if Panasonic had forgotten to put anything inside the camera body? Contrast that with hanging rails & a Letus adapter on the front of my old HVX200 or HPX170, I've got no desire to go back. I've found my Canon 60D to be useful too but I still use it for stills 90% of the time. Truth of it is (for me anyhow), all of these cam's have treated me well . . . from my original DVX100 on up.
