GH2 focus question

when I'm framing my shot in manual focus I can touch the screen & it zooms in but when I click the record button & start filming that feature stops

is there a way to keep it on while filming?

No, that is a feature of the camera to do a crop for tighter, more accurate manual focusing. If you'd like to crop in that way, use the ETC mode, it does a very similar effect of cropping but records that way.

but in ETC mode you are recording a zoomed in picture then right? I just want to be able to do an occasional zoomed in focus check while recording, possible?

You're not recording a zoomed in picture per say, it's sampling the 1920x1080 in the middle of the sensor instead of interpolating all the 16mp down to that 1920x1080, thereby getting you a zoomed shot, but without quality loss. Sorry to say, if you'd like to just do the occasional zoom in while recording, this is not possible. one or the other, unfortunately not both.
