Hey guys. I need to know about what focal length on micro four thirds compares to a 20x zoom on something like a Canon XH-A1 (1/3 inch 3CCD) or Sony HVR-V1U (1/4 inch 3CMOS).
That's not a very easy thing to say since this is a camera with interchangable lenses so with that said, depends upon what lens you put on there. The 14-140 is a 10x, but you could put one of these:
The Canon XH-A1s has a 4.5-90mm lens which has an FOV equivalent to 32.5-650mm lens on a full-frame 35mm camera, thus you would need a 16 - 325mm lens to be equivalent with the GH-2. If such a lens existed it would be huge, weigh a ton and cost a fortune.
A fast 16 - 325mm designed to cover large sensors ... hard to imagine.
But please don't forget the Gh2's tele-crop mode. This adds nice FOV-options to the 14-140mm. Sure it is not a 20x eng Lens, but quite amazing, though.
Ok, cool. I wouldn't actually need the FULL 20x zoom, I was just curious what it would take to get down to the zoomed focal length side of the zoom. So it sounds like the 14 - 140 with telecrop or the Lumix 100-300 f/4-5.6 would get pretty close. Thanks, that helps a lot, guys!
Ed_lee, what's the Angie you're talking about? I found people talking about it from a Google search, but couldn't find anything solid on it?
Justyn-- that's some sweet glass, but I don't have a PL mount yet. I think I'd just hire my RED DP/ shooter on anything I needed to be that high quality. But thanks for the suggestion.
