GH2 - First Video/Audio Test

I took the camera out yesterday. Cloudy afternoon. Just getting acquainted with the camera. I really wanted to see how the audio would sound with my Sennheiser ME66 going into the camera. Shot hand held on an L bracket. Quick edit and then onto Vimeo:

Hi Larry: Thanks for posting this. I have a few questions ... :-)

- What GH2 audio level setting was used?
- Was the ME66's high-pass (low-freq attenuator) switch on or off?
- Was there a windscreen/jammer on the ME66?
- Did you use an inline attenuator/PAD in-between the ME66 & GH2? If so, what was the -db value of the PAD?

Thanks!

Hi Peter,

The gh2 audio level was on level 2, the high pass was off, I always keep the foam windshield on the mic but this is not for windy conditions (will buy the rycote for wind), and no PAD. The mic was in a shockmount and the schockmount sits above the handle of the l bracket. The mic plugs into this:

This box works great because I can dial in sound level without changing the setting on the camera and I can see the levels in the LCD.

larrys,

I have a Beachtek DXA-4 that looks almost identical to the box that you are using. Do you know if it will work similarly? Also, are you monitoring levels using the mic level indicators on the LCD screen only or do you have a way to monitor via headphones?

Thanks, any information would be greatly appreciated.

Tony

Hi Tony,

I really don't know about the beachtek. Yes, I was monitoring with the level indicators as there is no way to use a headphone in this set-up. Good luck with you camera.

I posted an audio test with my GH2 this afternoon:

I tried the Rode video mic directly to the camera, The H4n directly to the camera using the onboard mics and finally an Audio Technica AT835b shotgun going into the H4n which was connected to the camera....

Don't know which really sounds better...
