Hi there,
I purchased a second (used) GH2 body that has firmware 1.0 on it and I want to update to 1.1.
The kit lens also has 1.0 and needs upped to 1.1.
I'm trying the body first as recommended.
I've been following the official Panasonic directions at the firmware download site
to the letter, as far as I can see, but maybe I'm missing something.
I've validated the size of the download in bytes ( 5,909,984 ) and it's correct to what is listed on the Panasonic site.
I've tried 2 different fully charged batteries, charging them until the charger light goes out.
One of them is brand new and fully charged for the first time.
The other is older but always shows a full charge on the Camera's meter after charging it.
I've reformatted the SD card in the Camera and then using a card reader on my PC I copy G2___V11.bin to the root of the card.
Have the camera off
Insert new battery
Insert SD card with firmware (only firmware and default directories)
Turn on camera
Push the Play button
and the result is "No valid picture to display..." every time.
Starting from scratch - newly charged battery, newly formatted SD card ...
I also tried copying the firmware to the card using the camera's USB cable direct to the camera.
Same result: "No valid picture to display..."
One site mentioned downloading "ptools" but I'm reluctant to go that route if it can be done ... "Panasonic legit" ... so to speak.
The only thing I didn't do ( by the letter ) is use C:\Temp as the folder where I extract the firmware, but I can't imagine that could be the issue.
Can someone help me out here?
Thanks!
Additional thought:
Could it be that the camera needs to be reset to all default settings before updating the firmware?
I was hoping it would remember my setup so I'm not going to reset everything unless it's necessary or unless someone tells me a firmware update wipes all user settings.
