GH2 GH2: FD Devotees?

I use the Canon FD's on AF-100 as well as on GH2's for last couple of years. Great glass!
with rock solid ciecio7 m4/3 adapter - 24mm -f2.8, 28mm-f2, 50mm-f1.2, 85mm-f1.8, 135mm-f2.8(SSL)
all of them are amazing in terms of color reproduction.

....But their new lenses (12mm F1.6, 25mm F0.95, 35mm T0.95 and 50mm T0.95 HyperPrime CINE) are not! Those are original optical designs that are fairly impressive in tests against other performers. In fact, Steve Huff implied that some of the hyperprimes (the high end models not to be confused with the toy lenses) were a bit sharper than the Leica lenses he compared them too.
Andrew at EOSHD felt the same. Don't lump these into the same group as cctv- their modern coatings and the like make them arguably more desirable than FD lenses in some ways, however each has a distinct look. FDs are a great value for the money, but the rare ones that approach a $1k street value might not offer more than an SLR Magic or Voit at a similar price point.

Spot on. The new 25mm CINE is superb. It beats my pristine 50mm FD wide open although the later is a beautiful portrait and flower lens. The SLR is also on par with my 35mm LOMO, although several stops faster.

The original 26mm Toy lens is wonderful in its own way but really a one trick pony. Fun at times, but do not confuse the two.

While clearly not CCTV lenses I'm till not convinced the SLR Magic's offerings are not modified Machine Vision lenses.

But I don't care if they are.

I took a walk around my block yesterday and shot with the FD 50mm 1.4. Beautiful lens. People say there's a vintage look but that eludes me. When I think of vintage I think of Hipstamatic and that is not the case at all. I did notice the lens would flare much much more readily than a modern lens but if used right that could make a great artistic statement.

Anyway... Here are some pics...image.jpg

In terms of detail and flaring how much better is the 50mm f1.4 compared to the 50mm f1.8? At the time I bought the 50mm f1.8 I opted to not get the f1.4 not so much due to cost but didn't really know if I wanted to go the FD route. At $30.00 I couldn't pass it up the experiment. Since the f1.8 always looked soft to me I decided it wasn't worth it to get a f1.4 since the 2/3 stops wasn't going to help me all that much. Now I'm wondering if a f1.4 could in fact look much better.

I like to think of them as more organic and not so much vintage. I think some just associate that organic smooth look to vintage because they are so used to digital being razor sharp.

I had a pair of 1.8's. Both had a lot of haze and are therefore very dreamy. The 1.4 is a very sharp lens on the GH2. I don't think I'd ever fork over the cash for the 1.2.

Thanks for the example. I am missing the longer lenses at this point. Just got in a couple and now have 24-2.8, 35-2.5, 50-1.4. I will get faster versions and longer lenses when cash is on hand.

Here is an example of what my 50 does. I like it a lot. It doesn't take second chair to either of my Panny lenses. This is a grab from Facebook but you get the point.
