GH2 Gh2 external monitor looks dark

In the past I have always used the exposure meter set to (.) and the built in LCD screen to figure out exposure (what ISO to use). I recently bought an HDMI cable and when I hook it up to my television or to my new external LCD monitor, the image looks dark (crushed blacks). Am I doing something wrong? Do you guys trust that attached LCD screen and the internal meter (what settings do you use for each to help insure that what your shooting is accurate)?

Is your tv calibrated correctly? Sometimes consumer products have a higher contrast ans satration to make the image eye candy.
How dark does it look (photo?)
