GH2 display changes when I hit record... why?

Just to chime in here. I'm having exactly the same problem with my own GH2 that the OP described. But here's a great workaround I just discovered. Just go into the White Balance section and do a manual white balance adjustment...aim the GH2 at any white paper/background and done! Works great for me. When I tried dialing in the temperature, I still got the color shift when I pressed record. But doing the old manual way where you aim at a white background and hit the shutter button, there's no change in color temp when you press record. Just thought I'd share this approach. Hope it helps.

Use the manual white balance mode: "1" or "2" in the white balance section and then you won't get any color temp shift.

and after this people still believe that this camera is so awesome? no way... this is f****d up. sorry

I would highly hope that anyone using this camera for anything serious would always bring along an external monitor. This is a non issue. And i also doubt that after you hit record and the image goes greener than anyone will be rushing to put a minus green filter on their lamps thinking they are too magenta.

You know, it turns out I have another camera here that also gets really weird when I start to roll. My Bolex. Gets all flickery when you pull the trigger. Should I get rid of that too? I thought it was awesome, but now I'm really not sure and have no idea how to work with this massive limitation.

Yeah, when I was shooting on my Panaflex Millennium XL2 35mm the other day I noticed that what I see through the viewfinder isn't exactly what I saw in the dailies. I mean, there were like slight differences and stuff! Panaflex my a**, what a piece of sh**!!!

I noticed this problem the first day I got my GH2. If I aim the camera against my wall that is white, and press the record button it will shift to a more green and contrasty looking image. So what it does is that it adds a lot more contrast. Alltough this is most visible indoors in low light situations, outdoors you won't notice it as much as inside.
Also, before you press record, the image looks like 50p, it goes to 24p first after pressing record.

I can live with it, I mean, DSLR shooters have adapted their shootingstyle and found workarounds for so many other problems, so why not this one too?

The image you see before pressing "record" is grossly inaccurate. Pay no attention to it.

The image you see AFTER pressing "record" is a lot more accurate. Still not accurate, but much moreso.

Even after doing this I still prefer adding 2 clicks towards Amber and 3 clicks towards Magenta

True.
Plus one you learn what to look for and how to work your camera, this is one thing people are paying you for. Knowing how to work your tools.

Before the GH2, I was working with my HPX170. People who worked with it know how terrible the monitor is on this camera, still, I rarely complained about it.
