GH2 GH2 compared to the C100

Honestly not a good comparison at all. By the middle of it I started skipping ahead because I got tired of out of focus or glared GH2 shots. The are some examples of decent GH2 footage that shows what the camera is capable of in there, such as the kids playing at the park or the tilt up to the tower. But most of it was fuzzy and I know it's not the GH2's fault as I have shot footage comparably sharp to what you see from the C100 here using the GH2. Sorry for being negative but there's not much point to this clip as a comparison video. But as a showcase of the C100's quality it's a great example. The camera looks really nice. I'm impressed.

Thanks. I think it was very useful since you took the time to shoot the same shots and match FOV. I think the C100 looks really good, rich, clean, great skin tones. It looks better in the wides. The GH2 though not as vibrant seemed to show a little more details in the shadows on some shots (the wall behind the piano player for instance). I'm pretty impressed with the look of the C100. Good luck with it!

I find it's difficult to judge resolution when there are different lenses on each camera. It would have been better to move the GH2 back and used the same lens to have about the same view. But I also think the C100 looks really good.

I couldn't shoot both at the same time with the same lens. Testing the Rokinons was also a part of it, and that's why I switched to the Lumix for the most part.

Nice to see the GH2 holding up so well. It would be interesting to see how the GH2 would hold up in the outdoor shots if you used a picture style like smooth and something else than the awfully contrasty Lumix lenses! Both cameras gives great pictures making them capable of being some rocking moviemaking machines!

Also, thanks for doing the test and sharing it with us!

I dunno. The c100 makes the gh2 look soft. Like the gh2 makes the canon 7d look soft. I wonder if the c100 does really have more resolution... to my eyes, it seems to. I'm going by the tree leaves in the wide shots.

A lot of the Gh2 shots tended toward green, while the canon colors were more pleasing across the board. If this could be better corrected in camera or in post, it would make the differences less jarring.

Yeah, I'm going to play with matching it more. I think the Capitol building is a good indicator of the difference, and it's not going anywhere, so I might fiddle with the GH2 and try to get it closer raw off camera instead of trying to post correct it.

Looks good. Yeah, a manual WB in both cams would have been the way to go, but oh well. C100 has the clear edge here. Then add all the features of the c100 on top of the image and I'd have to say it clearly beats the Gh2. But when one looks as the price of the cameras, the gh2 holds it's own.

How did you find the EVF and the LCD quality on the C100, Gary?

The EVF is slightly worse than on the GH2, plus it feels like you're making out with the camera when you hold it up to your face.

I think it's safe to say that I could buy a GH3 and a BMCC for that price and have them up and running....

Very true...but at the same time, the ergonomics over both are so much better, built-in NDs, and terrific quality with small AVCHD files can't be ignored.

My thoughts precisely. (You some kind of mind reader, Adam?)

It's a good start, but I would want to see the GH2 with better glass ( like the Panasonic 12-35mm, Voightlander 17.5mm or 25mm, Olympus 12mm or 45mm ) and better color correction.

Between these two cameras, I expect to see the C100 pull-away when it comes to contrasty subjects ( like back-lit sunlight shots or city-scapes at night ), high ISO low-light shooting, and rolling-shutter pans.

And if you add a high-bitrate 4:2:2 recorder, then there is no contest at all. C100 all the way.
