GH2 as a minicam ?

Hi guys, I use Camsports extreme HD cams for my automotive work when i need to film from a car or bolt onto a car but without the hassle and risk of rigging up a complete 5d or camcorder. They are the same electronics as the gopro and whilst the quality is pretty good for the price, the compression is pretty bad especially when you have lots of fast moving scenery.

My question is, how small and light is the gh2 ? My thinking is that it might be light enough to rig fairly easily to a car and i would get much better quality footage. The other thing that bothers me though is how it might stand up to a bit of shaking and vibration ?

With GH2 you will need a lens with OIS - stabilization and rolling shutter could be an issue. ETC mode might help cut it down as it takes 2mp crop off sensor. You might look into Panasonic HDC-SD800K it has great stabilization, and records at 60fps, its 28Mbps VBR codec is pretty good and has a decent wide angle lens.

I'd go for a "pocket camera" with a CCD sensor. They cost around 200 € and shoot 720/30p with no rolling shutter issues.
The GH2 is light enough for the work you're thinking, but it's not as expendable. A good GH2 setup will cost you 1,5-2K and any setup 1K.

Thanks guys. I note that gh2 does not do 1080p at 25fps which is an issue. Rolling shutter isnt an issue as the gopro and hdmax have that. Which pocket cameras are you ti king of ? Would they have better bitrates and compression than a gopro style camera ?
