GH2 and HDMI out recording

The thing is, I don't think it's outputing full HD until you hit record....

Exactly. It's outputting lower than 1080p and not 24p until you hit record. Here's the obvious solution, crop out the record symbol and timer in post! Hell, keep all your insturmentation on, except for maybe histogram, and just crop it out...yeah you lose some resolution but you get all the benefits of HDMI recording.

Also, you can combine the AVCHD with HDMI captured footage and replace the area covered by the record dot and the timer... I'd rather get AF100, though

Am shooting almost exclusively 1080 these days, but still have a lot of projects ending up at 720. In which case, problem solved with no loss of resolution when you drop 1080 footage into a 720 sequence. As a side note, that combo also provides some flexibility in post for interviews, etc. in terms of re-framing the shot by scaling to a tighter shot or offsetting the original framing; all without losing resolution.

Has it been definitely confirmed there won't be any way to turn the record symbol and timer off?

I think we can all safely assume you won't be able to because you can't on the GH1 and they're only talking about HDMI monitoring for "confirmation of the images" for pro video people...but they are talking about pro video users in the literature which makes me very very happy.

This is not what Vitaliy is saying...

HDMI out:
I was told, that HDMI out is the full quality with no dropped frames, no darker image or anything.
According to them the HDMI output is depends on your HD selection for filming.
If you select 24p, HDMI out is 24p. If you select 720/50p it is 50p and if you select 1080/50i, it is 50i. <-- must be checked!

Or Philip Bloom there:
