GH2 and FCP newbie question

Can anyone give step-by-step direx on bringing GH2 files into Final Cut? When I tried, FCP didn't find any files it wanted to transfer. I've read various threads here that suggest that some folks are having success doing it, others not. Could someone who has done it successfully, without third-party software, please enlighten me?

Thanks.

Copy the ENTIRE PRIVATE Folder directory onto your computer. You can then rename just that top PRIVATE folder if you wish. Go to File, Log and Transfer, hit the little folder icon with the plus on it on the top part of the window, then add that PRIVATE directory. Select the clips and begin the transcoding. Don't forget to set your scratch disk somewhere you have space and to change the import settings for AVCHD (under the little gear icon in the log and transfer window) to ProRes 422. I would also recommend having it name the clips based on the time/date they were created (it can do this) rather than the Clip #1 naming convention. This will make it easier to reconnect media in the future by retranscoding if you need to restore from a backup, and will let you keep backups of just the small AVCHD private folders and not the massive transcoded files. Are you in Final Cut 7 or later? (studio 3.)

Thanks! So ProRes 422 LT? And should I have it "remove Advanced Pulldown ..." checked? And how do I have the clips named by the time/date they were created?

What you do with the naming of the clips is really up to you. Time and date is a good way to go though. As Ben B sad, make sure you don't mess with the Private folder or any files in it and you should be fine.

Last year I thought about buying Mercalli v2 and PluralEyes plug-ins. Not anymore. FCPX $299. No brainer upgrade?

ProRes codec (no color shift!!), background transcoding, image stabilization, audio sync, better color management, meta tags, etc. When I need special effects, hopefully export to xml and import into PP CS5 timeline. Then replace a desired clip w/ AE. FCPX & CS5 suite might work well. No I won't buy it until the integration is proven working.
