GH2 80% slow motion mode - 30p for Europeans?

I noticed that in 80% slow motion mode the longest shutter speed possible (with Panasonic AF lenses) changes from 1/25 sec. with 24p Cinema mode to 1/30 sec in 80% slow motion mode. So the framerate in this mode seems to be 30fps (which is not available with European PAL GH2 cameras otherwise).

Does this mean that even with my European PAL GH2 I can get 1080p at 30fps if I use that 80% slo-mo mode and increase the speed of that slo-mo in post processing by 25% to get back the normal speed?

And how would that impact image quality? Would that still be using the high 24Mbps bitrate?

Thanks for sharing any experience!

Keep in mind you lose sound when you record in the variable frame rate modes, so unless you use 2 system sound, then you'd be sacrificing audio recording.

Yes, I know, but I don't always need sound, so this wouldn't worry me too much. I do care, however, about image quality. So I would like to learn from experience others may have made using this mode.

I shot the video below using the 80% in camera slow motion for all but one of the slow motion shots. I have an NSTC GH2 so I was not surprised that it shoots 1080p @ 30 FPS slowed down to 24 FPS. There is a theory that the slow motion mode uses a higher bit rate than even the 1080p @ 24 FPS mode does on the AF100. However, it doesn't appear to do that on the GH2.

There are also a bunch of ETC shots in there as well. The ETC mode is great outdoors but it magnifies noise in the low light scenarios in that video.

I'm curious if you had a chance to compare 1080i/60 with the 1080p/30 (80% mode)? How's the image quality? Is the compression using at least 24Mbps bitrate or 17Mbps?

I also don't need audio (can record separately and sync after).

I have compared the 1080i mode to all of the other modes and it is never better than any of them including 720p once you deinterlace it. The 1080p/30 80% mode appears to be almost the same as the 18 mb/sec 1080p @ 24 FPS mode.

18? Was that a typo? Panasonic only mention 17 and 24Mbps!
