Gh2 24mbps codec compared to HMC150 codec

I'm coming to the GH2 from a HMC150. Wondering how different the codec implementation is compared to the HMC150. The codec on the 150 is rock solid. I've never had a case where it fell apart, but I know that the codec implementation isn't all about bitrate.

Does the GH2's get overwhelmed? Under what conditions?

I hope to be able to do some comparing soon.

I have the same cameras. There's quite a difference in the look. I've been able to grade both with magic bullet. They don't look exactly the same, but I wasn't running an exact test. The gh2 appears to have better image quality, at least in what I shot.

i'll be watching this thread.

The images I've seen from the GH2 are definitely sharper and of course can have beautiful depth of field. I'm just hoping the to see a lack of macroblocking.

I too have both cameras and can't tell you much as far as the difference in codecs. Files from both the HMC-150 and GH-2 are similar in size and my rig seems to handle both of them the same.

As for the look, they are drastically different at times (GH resolves considerably more detail, DOF, etc) but in certain situations they can work quite nicely together.

Take this short documentary project I'm working on. Majority shot with the GH2, but see if you can figure out which shots were with the HMC.

beautiful JonsMovies! The 1st interview GH2 right?
when you tell us please list your spec thanks as much as possible. thank you for posting the video.

That was really powerful. You could have shot that with a flip video camera and it would have been great. Glad to see those kids are doing well. But it did look good. Looks like the HMC-150 was used for the tight interview shots and as your audio recorder. I think all the b-roll was GH2. Please post a link to the finished piece.

Thanks for the comments. HVXguy's dead on. HMC for tight shots cuts very well with the GH2, and no need for an external audio recorder!

All B-roll and wide interview shots were GH on a modified smooth setting of -2,-2,0,0. HMC was a modified scene spark preset. I'll update with exact settings.
