Used some old Nikon lenses, Canon fd 50mm 1.4, artbeats film clips and sony vegas to try and replicate an old 16mm film look.

Looks very nice. Liked what you did a lot. Just think the flares are a bit much but I did like the film specs and grain and the overal look is really pretty nice. I'm doing somethin like this with some old Pentax lenses. I'm also thinking of picking up some old Nikons but the problem is that everyone else is doing that too and the prices have gone up a lot....

this is too "plug-in posted" for my taste.. i mean the scratches and flares.

it works ok tho  i did a little plug-in work a while back just for fun, i liked the look yet would'nt use it much if at all, still fun seeing what plug-ins can do these days.
i had planned to do a shaft like blaxploitation type sketch with this effect.

Here's my attempt with cheapo 35mm cctv lense for its unique look and flares.
Graded with MBL and cut in some filmburns.

this is very nice. i would prefer no film burns..
it's nice enough without it. as they say in Israel : one puff too many..

This looks very muck like a dof adapter with a static gg. It's like a mix between organic and vintage. It's really nice none the less.

I always wondered why people buy high def cams, then go out of their way to make the footage look old. Then I had a job come in that called for the old film look. Of course we can't duplicate it perfect, but to the untrained eye it's not hard to fool. Now i look at using the plug-ins as just another tool in the box, and have grown quite fond of them. I use magic bullet a lot for the scratches, grain etc...

a DOF adapter is still a great way to add grain and depth to your image. And i suspect that on ebay and such they're dirt cheap now everyone's using dslrs for shallow DOF.

yea, i wasn't aware of this groovy investment, used by many pro digital films
http://cinegrain.com/

I just heard about CineGrain on another thread, saw their website, insane. Late last night I caved and just bought the ProRes version. I was at the last lafcpug and we saw the editors of glee and they said their final deliverable is ProRes. And on the CineGrain website, their cheapest version is in 1080 HD ProRes. They sell 2k. That is quality stuff.

It'll be arriving in the mail in the next few days. Standby for a some examples.

so you bought the 400$ pack? hmm quite a lot of $ for my budget..
wish you told me, i'm sure that there are at least 10-15 people here that would join up.
it's a shame they don't sell separate files. hell i'de only buy the 35

Hehe thanks!...well I tend to look at it this way...for me not all lenses have to be razor sharp and the image/resolution not have to super high in order to make a nice image. I love seb farges's videos... using cheapo cctv/cine lenses its nice way to create experimental video's. Thats what I love about the GH's the ability for experiment ;-)

The one thing I hate about the panasonic lenses is the clinical look they give...its good for some uses...but not for all.

The way I see it, for what I'm doing, it's totally worth it.

If I was to shoot film, factoring in the cost's to rent the cameras and lenses used, the costs of the film stocks, the costs of processing, and most costly, the cost of DI at a post house, as well as the man power to coordinate it all, it can be very very costly.

This stuff is pre-shot and professionally transferred for exactly the method everyone's saying is what everyone in Hollywood is now doing. All the film stocks for less than one roll of 35.

For this industry, seems pretty cheap to me.

i know that from any low-mid budget production the price is great.
but i struggle for every extra 100$ so it seemed a nice plan to join up and purchase the pack to split costs.
anyway, move your butt and upload a sample !!! ;)

how can just animating the files be of any help? i tried it today and it seems you have to have real grain live footage, i mean the grain can never repeat itself.

It can be done very easily and the results are great. Roei z do you have after effects, if yes I can help you.
