Shoot action shots with the GH1 in 720P mode, much less jello if any in most cases. Uprez to 1080p in the edit. Huge difference in jello tolerance between 720p and 1080p with the GH1.

just remember on gh1 you can buy it cheap, and buy and own cheap glass. good canon FD lenses go for 20-100$ on ebay/craigslist etc. The lowest priced Red lens is 5000$. the Red zoom lenses are 10,000$ and cost an arm and a leg to rent. Not worth it unless you're on a huge budget
Quick pan meaning a 'whip' pan. Say a POV of a person looking around nervous. You can't pull that stuff off to well with a GH1 or 7D or 5D because of all the jello. I have a scene after a car accident where the camera 'whips' to the right then frantically looks around in POV of the main character for an object in the car... did some tests and not liking what it looks like on any of the above mentioned cameras. I could... slow it down... but I don't want to.. it doesn't serve the feeling that I want. Which is the pov of a person frantically looking for something, you move your head around very fast.

Just weight the camera down properly.
You'll solve most issues that way.
Good luck on your second feature. All I have to say is play hard, aim high or go home. Too many teams in the tourney now to not play ball like you're here to decimate the planet every time you drive to the hole.
GH-13 will suffice. But if you actually try to look for better youd be surprised what you find.
Thought about those options Cave and pianoboy, and in a bad pinch it's possible... I use the 720 60p shots blown up to 1080 for slomo, but I still think it can't handle real fast action moves... there is still jello, and I do not like the look of 720 60p conformed to 24p... never have. it works for some people but I can immediately recognize it and the shutter and motion cadence always looks weird to m compared to the beautiful motion cadence of the 1080 24p.
I think anyone going into a feature film is bat crap insane to not hire a dp that at least understands the fundamentals that will get you a watchable image.
All this noise about sound being the movie is silly. Movies are MOVING IMAGES. You can make a silent film that can tell a story without a shred of audio. Audio is no more an important piece than your motion picture. They all play equal part in your career flourishing.
Walk out on the court crippled if you want. Just don't expect to score much.
in the context I was speaking of, a huge budget is one that allows you to purchase the Red and its lenses without much worry so you do the mathwhat do you consider a huge budget?
Yeah, for the record, DP does not mean Man That Owns Camera. Hahaha.
If you have a DP, then just get what you can afford. If you say you can afford to Rent a RED if it comes in at a certain price, then look for a RED at that certain price for the duration of your shoot.
If you can afford a GH1 or GF1 w/a hack, then purchase that
At this point, the cameras REALLY don't matter. A DSLR or a RED or FIlm will all get you what you need to do something great. It's all in front of the camera and behind it, now, that's gonna make the biggest difference.
If you don't have the budget to go RED, then I would just pick up a GH13 or a 5D (one of the two), three fast lenses (wide, medium, tight) and shoot it up.
something funny that I just ran across that might help some. Why soap operas don't look like other productions:
