GH13 problem changing firmware -- ptool audio settings?

greetings all --

as this is my first post to the forum, i think it polite to formally say "hello". i've been lurking here since last october or so when i bought my gh1. this place has been a wealth of great information about my camera -- my thanks to all of you.

that being stated, i have not been able to find a fix (read: similar situation) for my current problem...

since i purchased my camera, i have changed the firmware via ptool countless times; playing with bitrates, frame sizes, etc. however, this last time i modified the settings in ptool to allow for 48kbps audio capture. this seemed to work well -- the audio indeed sounded of better quality -- but rendered the captured files unplayable in-camera. this was, of course well documented and i expected the camera to behave as such.

in any event, last week i attempted to "re-hack" the camera without the audio modifications so that i could again play the files back in the camera. this, unfortunately, to no avail. on a fully-charged battery, and with the appropriately modified firmware on the sd card, when i press the playback button and select "yes" on the update firmware dialog, the camera does not proceed through the update process. i am only prompted to turn the camera off and then back on.

i have scoured the forums and tried all of the possible solutions that i could find, but am still unsuccessful. i suspect that this problem has something to do with the modification to the audio settings that i made, since that is really the only difference from my previous (and quite successful) changes to the firmware settings...

has anyone had a similar issue? any suggestions for a possible solution?

thanks a bunch in advance.

cheers.

update....

i pulled my hair out about this for the last two months and finally got the camera to accept an update firmware. interestingly, the problem had nothing to do with the audio settings, or anything that i had done with ptool for that matter. i'm not sure what exactly the problem was, but it narrowed down to the card reader that i was using to transfer the firmware to sdcard. i tried another card reader and POOF, all was well.

just in case anyone else runs into this kind of problem.

cheers.

This happened to me once when I was doing tests with the GH1 mounted on a tripod in broad daylight on a hot day. At some point it refused to accept firmware updates with the message "Please turn the camera off and then on again". I tried updating it again the next day and it's worked fine ever since. I suspect something got temporarily overheated inside the camera.
