GH13 GH13 or HMC40?

I currently own a GH13 and have the ability now to trade with someone, my GH13 body and a Rollei lens for their HMC40. However, the HMC40 has a "nicked" front element, which shows up as a black area in footage until zoomed to about z30. Other than that, the HMC40 is in great condition with only about 40-50 hours on it. Should I keep my GH13 or do the trade? Post your opinions please. By the way, I also already own a T2i setup with a large amount of gear and a couple rigs.--------------------Thanks-Kyrankyranford@gmail.com

I own both the GH1 and the HMC40.

Thats a tough one. I like both cameras and each has it's pros and cons. The GH1 with f1.8 glass will beat the pants off the HMC40 for low light. If you need telephoto or zoom however it flips back to the HMC40 since most zoom lenses for DSLRs are f4 to f5.6 on the long end. Having the ability to actually capture great audio and have a nice fluid electronic zoom is kind of worth it if you work with more video type projects or live material. I guess it all depends on what you shoot. There are certain shooting situations where the GH1 just will not cut it. Then there are situations where the HGMC40 may fall short. Considering the HMC40 has a defect I would be a bit concerned about the trade. The HMC40 is already not very wide and if you are forced to zoom in a bit just to use it you will find shooting indoors to be very cramped or even next to impossible. We just did a 5 camera shoot at work and I couldn't be there so my boss used my own HMC40. She loved it and really enjoyed shooting with it but she commented that it didn't get very wide which is a well known complaint of the camera. I believe it is the same as the 20mm lens on the GH1. I don't know exactly how to calculate the mm based on the error you mention but it seems like it would be around 40mm. That is a little long to be forced into always using for indoors. Just something to think about.

I don't find myself shooting with the GH13 very often. It's a b-roll camera in which hardly ever gets used. I often times did myself shooting b-roll with my T2i. The HMC would come in extremely handy for times when I'm wishing I had a genuine video camera, but the damaged glass is killing me. Do you think it would show if I used a 35mm adapter with it?

If I resold the HMC40, how much do you think I could get out of it as is? Like I previously stated, it is in mint condition other than that. Comes with the original box and only has about 40 hours on it.
