GH13 GH13 & GH2 Vegas 10 editors & edius 6 editors - bucking up to edit on the go?

I need to be able to sometimes take projects with me and edit somewhere else. I have a very powerful laptop.

With edius, I save the project with all media checked (no trimming full backup so I can change edits if I want) to a portable hard drive. I open it on another system with edius 6 and it works... it finds the files in the same dir.

With vegas 10c, when done with an edit I am backing up the entire project to an external portable hard drive (clicking the include media).

But then what happens is sometimes when I go to edit on my laptop or anyther system, either the hard drive letter is different or I copy from the portable the entire directory of media and project onto the laptop.

Then I open the project and it wants me to MANUALLY click on every piece of media (since the path letter is different...(the portable hard drive was say F: on my desktop and is now E: on the laptop) this is dumb it should just look in the directory that it was opened in or or allow me to point to the path ONCE and then find all the files.. not EVERY SINGLE clip..

Sometimes I have hundreds and hundreds of clips in a project I can't sit there doing this

There must be an easier way....

Help?!?

All my versions of Vegas (9 and 10) ask only once for the first relocated clip and then asks do i want to say yes for all the others. It then load all the others automatically. Are you selecting the second option ""browse for clip"" rather than search for??

Here's the trick. It sounds like you have more than one external drive, and sometimes you connect your Vegas external first, and sometimes your thumdrive? or whatever else, second...etc. Thus the changing of the drive letters, and Vegas has a hissy fit and wants you to point it back to all the other files. Usually, you can point to the source folder, click all, and it will find them all, at least it does in 9 pro.

In windows, you can change drive letter assignments. Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk Management.
Click on the external drive, that says "G" for example, and you want it to be "F", right click and select "change drive letter and paths". Then select the letter that was the original when you saved your project-done.

However; if you have another drive connected to "F", you will need to change that drive first. You can change it to "Z" if you wish.
Same with your external project drive. You can permanently change that drive letter to "Z".....that way, no matter what you have plugged in, before you plug-in your project drive, it will always be "Z", and you won't have a drive letter conflict. This is what I do on my laptop-hope it works for you.

It's weird it's not giving me the option to "blanket" search for all files... it says search for specific file, ignore file and put blank offline on time line or ignore all

I choose the third and magically everything was where it should be without having to change drive letters.

When I chose one it would just keep going to the next file and the next and the next.... making me want to kill things.
