GH13 Format for a Commercial?

I use a GH13 and I have been asked to do a commercial for a local company after they saw some of my work on the web. Almost everything I've shot has been in 24p to be played from a computer on a projector or on the web. Obviously these mediums can handle a native 24p file, no problem.

Now I'm doing a commercial for NTSC TV and I want the 24p look. Should I disable the hack and shoot 24p in a 60i wrapper? Is this going to make compositing effects in later a pain? I'll be trying some stuff out tomorrow for myself, but just wanted to see what information was out there. I may just shoot it in 720p 60 so that I have the flexibility but will be loosing that tiny bit of image quality and I'm not really sure how this is going to change the look (again, I'll be doing tests).

So, has anyone done something of this nature? Any tips and suggestions?

If the company saw your work and liked it, and said work was in native 24p... well there is your answer... why on earth would you go destroying what works, and what they liked, by...

oh wait... ntsc TV land... hmmmm

No.. still shoot in 24p, and then add a pulldown at the LAST stage when you give them a master file or a DVD or whatever you give them. If you edit with the wrapper on you are in for serious trouble and blended field upper lower field dominance changes...

Yeah, it's definitely a project where they want the "film look." Anyway, I'd contact Comcast and ask them (that's who they'll be running their commercials through) however I just stole their business, and apparently they'd been working to help these clients for some time, and couldn't produce what they wanted.

Not sure how that bodes for me, but I seem to have a good idea of what they are going for, and the pay is good, and this is really going to be a fun project. I'm excited to show it here when I'm finished.

I agree with adding the pull down at the very end. Let me know if anyone has any other suggestions or experience in shooting for commercials.

Man I used to do commercials all the time when I first started out on Hi8 stuff... the local cable company commercials were and still are SOOOOOOOO terrible!!!

Ha! I did local commercials on Hi8 too way back when. The thing about the local cable company commercials is they throw them in for free when you buy airtime. So, even though most local cable company produced commercials are terrible, it's an exception to find a local advertiser who's willing to pay to get an ad produced.

The thing about doing 30 second spots is it teaches you real fast how to cut unneeded fluff out of a piece. Have found that early experience has come in very handy for some of the stuff I'm doing now.

Shoot at the frame rate it will be broadcast at. You'll still get a 'film' look if you're shooting progressive frames at 29.97. If it's a big gig, shoot some tests to firm up your workflow before you start for real..
