GH13 avchd mud?

Don't wanna be dull but almost every video i've seen on vimeo has a high amount of mud (?) when anything moves in the picture. Watched everything from 24mbit avchd to 100mbit mjpeg. Yeah it's looks amazing in static shots but whenever either camera or subjects move it looks really bad, imo.

Motion is clearly the problem and that's not related to vimeo (well if all GH13 footage is of incorrect compression then.......) Acutally I'm not even sure what "mud" means... i assumed it was like how mjpeg usually looks but to me there's *something* going on even in +40mbit avchd?

Just wanna know what i'm missing here. Looks absolutely amazing in static shots of nature etc but yeah, any motion and there's clearly something bad going on.... Thanks

Vimeo and Youtube absolutely butcher the bit rates. Of course you are going to get mud during motion scenes. Unless you download the original file you can make no conclusions watching Vimeo or Youtube.

give us some examples please. I have seen my share of vimeo clips even pre-hack and they look pretty good to me. if your not to sure what mud means, it is the break up of the codec and fine details become large blocky smears.

so yeah post up examples to confirm what you think you are seeing. nothing beats watching original mts files though.

No it's oriented around the GH13 footage for sure, not even vimeo free acc (1 pass encode) has "smearing" like the Gh1 stuff i'm watching. Well... i'm basicly going through http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/forumdisplay.php?f=208
Anyway maybe just a fact that highbitrate material looks worse than canon dslr footage on vimeo(??), or something... i dunno... or that canon h264's actual lowres sampling from the sensor simply looks better on web format... compared to material from bitrates u're not used to seing... Just brainstorming here... :)

Anyway guess i'll find out as soon as the camera lands in my mailbox

Put it this way: it's not the camera.

I don't know where to find it now, but when the GH13 hack was becoming stable some dude took his camera out in the woods and flailed it around and it produced motion blur, but no"mud." Motion blur is tolerable, mud is hideous. Although video compression artifacts can look like mud.

This is VIMEO and YOUTUBE... compression... Here.. see for yourself... of both, youtube keeps nearer to your original (if encoded right) than vimeo. I don't like vimeo at all except that for a brief time it lets you dl the original file. Other than that it's a useless service if you ask me. Supposed to be for pros yet it has worse encoding than youtube.

Sturday w the Dogs (GH1.3 50mbit) encoded to 20mbit mpeg4, then uploaded

Vimeo ONLY plays it at half resolution and has all sort of encoding problems.
The youtube version looks nearly identical to the master.
