GH13 and FCP Workflow

I have just updated my firmware via the Tester 13 PTool's method. I am experimenting with the "C" bit rate for AVCHD video's (shot in native 24P). I had been using Voltaic HD to remove pulldown from the 60i video clips in the stock camera. Voltaic doesn't recognize the high bit rate MTS files. I have noticed that others are able to Log and Transfer AVCHD files to ProRes for use with FCP. But when I try to load MTS files into the log and Transfer window, FCP says that the file is incompatible. Can someone post their exact workflow to go from 1080/24P high bit rate (44mbs) AVCHD (MTS) files to FCP?

You need the full directory structure, not just the .mts files. My old workflow (before cineform) was to make a disc image and copy everything from the GH1 image onto it...then just select that image in the log and transfer window. You get a backup out of it, too!

Thank you

Thank you

I was so used to using Voltaic. I did not think to run log and transfer with the camera connected. For those like me that are new to FCP and the GH1 hack, launch FCP, open the log and transfer window, and turn on your camera. All of the video files on the card in your camera will appear in the log and transfer window. Easy.

The better solution (in most situations) is to copy the whole card over first.

Hi
I put my SD card in a card reader, open imovie and archive the files first (it see's the card as a camera).
Then open FCP and log and transfer the saved AVCHD archive.
So then you know you still have the original on your computer or external hard drive.
Cheers

So if I have older interviews where I didn't know to save the whole directory structure file (only saved the actual .mts files), am I screwed?

Not completely, if you're on a Mac.

Handbrake will transcode the mts files to QT. Although I don't know if there is any quality loss. I haven't seen any myself with the little work that I did with the program.

Adobe Premiere CS5 can edit MTS files naively, without any pre-transcoding (Neoscene, Voltaic, etc)
