GH1 user needs advice - Action Essentials 2 with Sony Vegas Movie Studio

I am a GH1 owner and I felt that I could ask this question in this part of the forum because I always get a good response here (got very few replies when asked on the Sony Vegas and After Effects forum!!). Hopefully somebody here might know.
Anyway, being a total newbie to filmmaking, Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10 is my first ever film editing software so I can get a feel and a better understanding of NLE software. However, I was wondering if I can use Video Co-Pilot's Action Essentials 2 software with Vegas Movie Studio or do I need After Effects as well?
Thanks guys

videocopilot's action essentials 1+2 were destined to be used with after effects, period. I would suggest you take a look at adobe's cs5 production premium pack. premiere pro cs5 is a much superior NLE than Sony Vegas even though i can't say i've had much experience with vegas because i've always been using adobe software hence my bias. and premiere pro when used in conjuction with after effects, just rocks. Andrew Kramer's tutorials and stuff are for after effects . Anyway, the short answer to your question is that although i think you maybe able to do some very very basic and generic stuff in any NLE like maybe puting an explosion layer behind keyed footage, you would have zero creative control, and you would never be able to follow any of the tutorials, so I would just forget about it, darn, that wasn't short . anyway, that's my 2 cents

I have to agree with stefanos. But at the same time, Sony Vegas is getting much better than they used to be. Most of the action essentials are just video layers so there is no reason why you can't use them with Sony Vegas. The only problem I think you'll run into is adding several layers and being able to manipulate them as you would in AE. When it comes to effects and render speeds AE is probably one of the best out right now.

Just to add to my reply in in the Vegas forum (its OK to post follow-up queries asking for more info), Action Essentials is stock footage. You can use the HD version in Vegas: VMSP has the alpha compositing and key frameable pan/crop and chroma key effects you need. You are limited to only ten tracks, but seriously, one for your footage, one for explosions, one for smoke, one for debris is probably enough. The trouble with stock footage is that it is stock footage and you don't want other people's recognisable pavement cracks on your pavement. If you are interested in compositing effects, its better to create your own. Sure stock footage does it fast. Since money and lack of experience seems to be an issue, why don't you try some free stuff first, e.g have a look at http://www.detonationfilms.com/free_stuff.htm.

It's possible to do it in Vegas (or at least the pro versions, I'm unsure about Movie Studio), but it's far more complicated and slow. It IS doable though, and you can get good results too.

Hi Rainer,
I appreciate your replies on the Vegas forum but I thought that I might have got more replies from other users there. When things went quiet, I decided to post here where there seem to be a lot more users than on the Vegas forum. But I don't want you to think that I'm ungrateful...... I really do appreciate the help.
Thanks
