GH1 GH1 Strap rivet broken : a few questions

Hi everyone,

I saw a long post about that problem, and I was wondering if someone who add this issue can answer a few question :

- does Panasonic change the camera, or repair it ? I heard they fix the problem on newer model, but don't know if they exchange old body
- does they charge something for the operation, for under warranty bodies ?
- anyone had it repaired, and broke it again ?

Odd, you suggest that your GH1 is still in warranty - which should mean it's one of the last ones made

The strap lug problem was solved with a modified design in mid-2009 - the problem was caused by the lug bolt rotating, which eventually cused the internal nut to drop off inside the camera.

The fix was to add a small plastic 'washer' with squared edges which allowed a tiny bit of movement each way, but then hit the inside of the case, thus preventing any further rotation.

The new lugs should rotate a few degrees in either direction - but should then feel solid as the plastic washer does its job.

I've never heard of a modified GH1 having the lug problem - was yours old stock?, prodiced before the mod, but not sold until late 2010?

One very important thing! - do not power n the camera until it's fixed. In quite a few instrances the nut has fallen off the lug shank and landed on the circuit board, causing a short when power is applied.

Similarly - even if you've been lucky, and the nut lodged away from the board, there's nothing to stop it moving again, with the obvious risk.

Yes, it's what I read a few weeks after breaking the rivet. It's why I decided to have it repaired, I got used to use it without the strap, but seeing that some of us had sensor problems, I stopped using it.
