GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

Don't know if this will help anyone... I ordered a GH1 through Henry's in Toronto on July 15th and got an email today telling me it would ship tomorrow. I just asked them if they have more in stock, so if they do, I'll let you know!
anyone else from montreal toronto as that new too?
I ordered in LLlozeau and they told me I would have it this week.

TOMORROW MAYBE!

So if it is a PAL which I am thinking it is despite the 3 conversations I have had with them already, would there be any reason to keep it? I mean is it a total scam? Meaning there is no factory warranty despite that it says "factory warranty" on their site? Was there anything missing? I think Kholi had a PAL at first but he sold his. I plan on using it for wedding video/basic video production/independent filmmaking. I'm not one who is big on 24p vs 25p aesthetics. I'm more concerned about audio sync with my H4n than anything. But if this is going to turn out to be a complete scam then I will hollar at them right now to cancel.

Oh and no American Express here... Visa.

I'm guessing that the best bet is still to get in pre-order line and run my silly little app for B&H. Otherwise the cost of the camera is heavily weight by your sanity and refresh button. J&R and Adorama are projecting first week of August. That's not TOO far away.

They also projected July 15th and none showed up. I'm not holding my breath. You probably won't see this camera in store until Sept or easily find one until end of the year.

For people that ordered in like June though, right? I didn't put a pre-order in with J&R until July 13.

Visa works too. Do you have a pre-order in anywhere else? When did you order from them?

I didn't have a pre-order. I was waiting for them to get in stock then all the mess happened. When I see stuff like "Says will ship September 22nd" I said screw pre-order. However chances of getting one started looking grim as days past. When I went to the latest ebay link I noticed dbuys.com at the bottom which had "US factory warranty In Stock" I called them up and they said they have them. I asked several times if it was not PAL and they said is not. I ordered today. Then I read your post right after and though... hmmm I wonder if this is the same company. It is the same address as ibuydigital.com. Same price point however dbuys.com says US factory warranty. They said it would come 7-10 business days. I read a lot of positive reviews about dbuys.com but putting two and two together I'm thinking this is still PAL.

I think I could still make PAL work for me but I don't want this to bite me in the arss when it all said and done.

Hi Rabot,

I also ordered from L.L.Lozeau in Montreal. My order was placed on June 25th.

I just called them 3 minutes ago and was told that they weren't expecting any cameras in the coming days, or at least they haven't heard of any upcoming shipment from Panasonic. Apparently they have only received 5-6 cameras at the end of May/beginning of June, and nothing since.

When were you told that they would have the camera this week? When did you place your order?

Thanks!

How often do you shoot under fluorescent light? I was trying it last night at home, under halogen, and it was fine -- but today I come to work and it's strobe-city. I'm doing lower-end corporate shooter type stuff (I don't need this to be my day job yet, just want to make back the cost of the equipment...which I really want for myself). That means I often don't have much control over the lighting I'm in, so PAL just wasn't going to work.

If you don't shoot under fluorescent much, if it is PAL, you can probably make it work until you can get a NTSC one, and sell the PAL one. Depending on the availability of the camera in a month or 3, you should at least come close to breaking even.

At the very least, you might call them and tell them to make a note on the order that you need a NTSC camera.

Yeah I did that and they made a note but this guy told me it is NTSC. I gotta say I don't think any of them know the difference and I won't know until I get it. I asked about the "US Factory Warranty" on their web site and he said "Yes it is a US warranty." I said "Is it a Panasonic US warranty?" He said "Yes it is a Panasonic US warranty."

So I am hoping this turns out well. I don't suspect I will be needing to shoot in flourescent. If it comes to that I will just insist I control the lighting environment for a good shoot. If I can't bring in some lighting then it isn't going to be worth it to me anyway.

I'll let everybody know what the outcome is for sure. If I have to use PAL... well... as us Tennessee peeps say... I ain't skeert.

I also got an email from Henry's today that my camera was ready to ship. However, my panny order already came through. I'm canceling the order, if you're looking for a place to preorder, I would try them. They have been super nice and easy to deal with.

Tragically true statement of the day. I am going to call tomorrow and talk to them again before I return this for exchange. If all they're going to get me is another PAL model, I'm just going to say "bag it" and demand a total refund, no 5% restocking fee...because if they don't have different part numbers in their inventory (They don't, I already asked) then how are they supposed to track it in the warehouse (They can't, I'm just now accepting).

I help build the systems that make ecommerse work. Theirs is a nightmare, to say the least.

I called them like 2 weeks ago to see if they had any GH1, they told me that they didint have any, but there were supposed to get som in between the 22nd and th the 25th.

I called them yesterday and they told me nothing changed, that they should get them this week.

I wonder why they would tell me that they would get some if it wasnt true.

time2envy is in the same family of retailers as iBuyDigital.

See here

The more I think about it, the more I'm tempted to just bag it and wait my time for a guaranteed USA model.

If anybody else is interested in seeing how it plays out though, I'll stick it out and see what happens. Worst case scenario I send a second camera back and ask for a refund, right?

I keep reading bad things about this place. I keep thinking maybe I should call right now and cancel... if that is going to happen.

Nice catch! Why the hell did they sent you PAL if they had NTSC models on ebay? Something is fishy.
Did Tony Soprano hijack a GH1 truck and selling them on graymarket?
