GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

Hey here's a tip guys. For mac users you can use dashboard webclippings to add the "In stock" section of a page to your dashboard and check a ton at once, near constantly. Just make sure you wait the time for the refresh...takes 5-15 seconds sometimes.

Guys even though my camera is supposedly on it's way now I want you to know I will keep coming back to this thread and voicing my frustration and anger with Panasonic, shopatron, and everything else. This really isn't fair to anyone, and just because I barely managed to skate by and come out with a camera (assuming it doesn't detonate in transit..wouldnt be surprised,) doesn't mean that this crap going on is right. I was lucky. And I only was lucky because I got helped by a fellow DVXUser who already had his camera but looked out for me still. I was unlucky for the last two or so months, same as all of you. I am going to keep my eyes and ears open. I hope I get the chance to help someone the way I was helped. Good luck everyone.

That's great, and you're not the only one here doing that. I got my GH1 June 19 and I keep checking around and trying to find them and keep coming here to give tips. Even though I have mine (and you have yours), we have no one to share our experiences with because so few people can get them.

Mike

Curious to know how folks have managed to preorder from Amazon. No way to do that online. Called and was told there were no preorders as long as the item was available. And it is - for $2,500 from Dream Kitty. So, if I understand this correctly, as long as one seller is available with one unit and gouging the price for $1,000 over list, Amazon is essentially out of the game. Or am I missing something?

I was wondering what would happen to this thread once you got yours. Hopefully me and a few other GH1less shooters will keep the dream alive. :)

Really the only way to get one right now is to watch the Panasonic site like a hawk and try to slip an order in whenever they go "in stock". My prediction is, even though the web site says backordered until September, they'll get small batches in, ignore the pre-order people like they have before, and just put them online for sale for an hour or two. That's what happened on June 17 and I snagged one while it showed "in stock" for an hour. Got it a day and a half later.

In addition, you can keep checking the half dozen sites who are expecting stock. I've made a list and here are the pages I always check. I don't want a second camera: I've just been checking a few times a day for the benefit of the group here. Anyway, here are the places I check:

Panasonic
Adorama
J&R
Amazon
Norman Camera
Vann's
B&H

Good luck.

Mike

I disagree.

I ordered from Pana Direct on the 22nd, and it said In Stock, my order status says In Stock and yet no camera.

It sounds like the best bet is to call B&H every morning 10-11AM EST. Since they do not do pre-orders. If you order from Pana Direct chances are you will not get your camera until September, just like it says.

Amazon was one of the first to offer pre-order - long before Panny Direct did. I can only assume they took a bunch of orders, but then got annoyed with Panny like the rest of us - I forget when exactly, but at some point Amazon took it off their availablility list altogether - but some of us kept our orders 'live'. I honestly figured it may never come through, but looks like it finally did. To be fair, I was upset when all the product starting going TO Panny direct - now it's reversed. Best of luck if you're still waiting....

btw, mine STILL hasn't moved past "received billing info" status on UPS...still a bit nervous and untrusting...

Thanks, bgig - good luck with yours!

Maybe you should call in to see what the deal is? Not entirely surprising though, it should ship tomorrow out by the time when you got notification today.

Could take until the next day depending on what time the shipment was entered into the UPS system and what time that dealer has their normal UPS pickups. There's always a daily cut-off time for pickups and it varies by company. I've worked for a company that had a 2-3pm cut-off (pickup time) and another that had a 6pm cut-off (pickup time). Then it could take a few-several hours beyond that to actually update on the web.

Thanks for the response (you too Ben!) - trying not to freak out, but a bit punchy due to all the runaround we've all had. It supposedly left KY at 9:30 am, so seems a long time...but if the first scan was skipped, it could be on a truck and not get scanned til late tonight...will let you know!

Here's the Amazon response:
Note: To speed delivery, shippers may not location-scan all of their shipments. When shipping volume is high, packages are processed in bulk, and the first time a package is scanned may be upon arrival at a regional hub near the destination, or even when the package is delivered. If you don't see any tracking data for your shipment, and the estimated delivery date has not yet passed, please do not be concerned.

True, but hard to tell. The short stint of "in stock" on June 17 was the result of them getting a few in stock. The one later on the 22nd was labeled as a web site error. I think it's still a possibility so we have to check everything.

You and I ordered 1 day apart and was fooled by the in stock status as well.

That can't be. I ordered on the 23rd when it was still in stock; if "Hazard" ordered a whole day earlier. He would have surely got his camera before I was supposed to get mine..

The BS excuse I got; was that on the 25th my billing info was approved. They unfortunately had just sold the last one on the 24th I was told.......

Then almost two weeks later Panny-Directs tells me they have never even shipped GH1's before. My oh myyyyyy!

.

Congrats Ben on sneaking in there!

I've been having a good time playing with my camera, but haven't yet had the time to really dive into it. Workflow with AVCHD is different than with tape, so it takes a bit of getting used to...not having the tape as backup is a little scary I suppose.

This whole process is so wacky -- I originally ordered Amazon in early May, thinking that Panasonic would give supply to its major retailers before themselves. This was a wrong assumption in the beginning as the only people who got cameras were mainly from the direct orders. Just a few slipped through Amazon, but soon my order was no longer with an estimated date. I placed a Panasonic direct order thinking that they were fufilling direct orders first and then sending inventory to BH/Amazon, etc.

I kept a couple orders pending in case anyone wanted to pick up a camera...but it seems as though it could take some time still, so I think I am going to cancel my last pending order.

Sounds like best bet now is to keep an eye on major retailers (BH/Adorama/Amazon etc) because they will probably get another shipment. From the sounds of it, Panasonic may not come through on the promise of a mid July shipment date, but maybe someone can call tomorrow to see what the slot machine of customer service may inform us of. I'd urge those in dire need to call Henry's too, as mine was shipped last Monday and arrived via USPS on Saturday. They also tend to be good about telling you when their next schedule shipment is. The downside is you'll be paying about $1750 when all is said and done.

Good luck gang!

Regarding Ebay for $2000, if you use Bing.com cashback, you'll get back $160.

Just want to say "THANKS!!!!!" for bringing this to light. I'm so glad I waited an extra day before ordering a bunch of accessories for my yet to arrive GH1. Between all my purchases I already have about $100 cashback.

Lol I ordered a bunch of accesories...well just a few actually, but I refuse to use a web thing make by microsoft lol.

As much as I don't like Microsoft, if they want to pay me to buy stuff I would have bought anyways that's fine with me.

I see you've already bought it. Hope you found the Bing cashback. I sold a lot of expensive items, most people didn't bother with the cashback even though I listed instructions on my listings on how to do it!! Felt so bad and it's not even my money. Most people are skeptical I guess. There is no catch - I've received over $2000 in cashback from ebay purchases!!

In case you didn't or help someone else in the future, here:

1 - go to bing.com, in the search box, search for "xbox" (just one of the MANY keywords to trigger the CB link)

2 - on top of the search results, in the "sponsored sites" box, you'll see www.ebay.com Bing cashback, says 8% off with Paypal. If you don't see it, it DIDN'T WORK or Microsoft pulled it. NOTE this can change at any time, or removed altogether, but has been 8% for the longest time. At one point it was *35%*, but the $200 max per purchase still applies.

3 - click that link and it'll take you to Ebay. In ebay you should see on top in the middle, the Microsoft cashback 8% logo. If you see that you're good to go.

4 - now search for the item you want, it MUST be a buy-it-now listing. No good on regular auction or even best offer. If you see a best offer option, what you can do is email the seller with your offer, if he accepts ask him to change the buy-it-now price instead. I did that a few times, sellers are always helpful, he should be to get a sale ;)

5 - follow through, make sure on the confirmation page right before you commit the bid that you see the Micrsoft cashback stating how much you're getting back.

6 - pay with Paypal. After a little while you should see an email in your Ebay message. Setup your Bing cashback account and you're good to go.

Before there was a 60 day waiting period. Now it's instant on Ebay. Other merchants though there's still a 60day waiting period (like J&R, 5% currently).

Good luck!

thank you for the info. i followed the instruction on ebay.ca but did not see the microsoft cashback. so the question is is bing good for Canadian Ebayers?
