GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

I spoke yesterday to the PannyD representative he just said units are backordered and did not have any specific info. He told me he will have someone from the warehouse to call me back with details and today I got a call from a nice lady that gave me not so nice news. She told me that my Jun 15th order is listed to arrive mid August ;( and she said there was not much she could do to speed it up. To explain the whole mess she explained to me that GH1 is so hot on the global market that Panny just cannot keep up with production. Sad guys! I sooo cannot wait for that camera! I wish there were some competitive alternatives right now...

That's funny because someone posted that they received their June17th order yesterday...
 
Sorry to be another bearer of bad news, but a henry's rep called me today about my pre-order and said panasonic canada wasnt getting any until mid august. I'm guessing that after distribution that sept 2009 isn't as far fetched as we all thought!

BTW where did that original poster go. Not to sound skeptical, however, how do we know that this unknown no real name ( djrockadoo ) 17th posts only, is even real. What if he's BS-ing us! Like I said, I want to believe..

Wow. Henry's was the last US (Canadian) hope. Now it's really Pana Direct or nothing if you want a US camera. Really bites.

You guys can blame Barry_Green, he cursed you all. hehehee

Panasonic Direct sold this camera first, netting a resale profit directly back into the company. Keeping stock levels low is a traditional safety net for non essential goods during recession, and also helps retain initial list price for a longer duration. I disagree with this. The HVX200 came out in an up economy and there was nearly the same issues. No cameras. I also have dealt with Panasonic in their TV division and it was the same thing, even when it wasn't a down economy. They did screw it up. They've lost some customers to other camera already (5D, D90, K70, even their own video cameras) and they'll lose more with the continued delays. That's not good business sense.
 
This will be their new advertising line.

Pannidiots......... We can build them, we just can't deliver them...........!
 
They should learn from Apple. Apple has no problem filling the market with iPhones. Sure they may sell out the first day with hundreds of thousands of units, but the next day there's another shipment. Even with the very first iPhone, which was probably more difficult for them to estimate the demand, they didn't have a problem delivering for the most part.
 
I'm keeping my henrys pre-order... why not... but I'm almost tempted to start asking people what the best alternative would be. The argument over the gh1 vs. 5D mk!! has gone on forever, so I won't beat a dead horse, but if sept 2009 is a reality, should we start to consider the canon/nikon/etc equivalent surely to be released sooner than later wth a similar, or even potentially better feature set than the gh1?

I mean, if we're waiting until sept anyways? Why not consider it?
 
Keeping my Henrys preorder too...crap I seriously missed the last GH1 by 15 minutes, damn. C.Cook when did you order.
 
All Henrys said to me is that Panasonic has missed their last 2 ETAs and they have no clue when they'll get more. Last time I called I was told that I missed the last shipment by like literally 15 minutes.
 
I pre-ordered june 30th knowing full well I wouldn't get it until mid-july, which is what the henry's people actually showed me on screen at their ancaster store. Taking this into consideration plus all the talk on this forum about july 15th being some kind of magical gh1 delivery day, I assumed the best.

I know it sucks being in this position, but if you do happen to have a pre-order with henrys you can rest assured they will do everything they can to get it to ou, and keep you in the loop while ou wait. They rock!
 
Why the hell is Henry's getting these GH1 but none in U.S for Amazon, JR, BH..? Why are they the only ones getting these cameras? Is it because they're in Canada? It's so freaking unfair to US retailers.
 
I think you've mis-read dojoman.... henry's is NOT getting any gh1's.... prob not until late august, early sept.
