GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

say what? september? thats completely false. anyone tried calling again to get a non-retarded answer from the person at panasonic?

seriously what did you say in response to that? "you're really trying to tell me that you as a company will be sending NONE of these cameras to ANYONE until SEPTEMBER? really? september?"

but what i'm really interested in is wether or not the shipment actually got held up in customs and if this is going to delay the 22nd shipment. meanwhile I just love watching people who ordered WEEKS after me getting their cams before me. its awesome.

dood, i have no idea what's going on with their end. i just hope that whatever was held up in customs is ready go to next week so they can start filling our orders.

this is the direct quote from panasonic direct -

"Ain't no' body know it's goin' to ship. you know wut a preorder is?" then she told me how she is the only one there and there isn't a manager there.

i feel like a random person picked up the phone and screamed at me.

And it's this kind of response that made me order one from a Canadian dealer than had them in stock. Frankly I've never seen a company with this kind of ordering process. Truly amazing. Panasonic better get this fixed to save them huge embarrassment and customers huge frustration. They've already lost customers as a result of this.

i'm thinking of taking the plunge and cancelling my shopatron and panny direct order because this is all i get from them. i'll keep my adorama order. at least they can do things, like change shipping address, etc, and you don't have to pay taxes. i'm sure that at some point by the end of this month, the cameras will be all over the place and scammin the panny direct system will be irrelevant.

if someone thinks this is a bad plan please let me know. i think adorama will have them as soon as shopatron does or within a day or two.

I tend to agree. Adorama seems to be in the first batch for most cameras so I think they are a good bet. B&H Photo or J&R are also places I tend to watch. My M.O. would be to keep the GH1 pages at Panasonic, B&H, J&R, Adorama, and Amazon bookmarked and check them several times a day. Whichever one goes "in stock" first, place an order. That's what I did and it worked for me: at Panasonic Direct.

Same case here Ken. I had the same crap happen to. I even got in to contact with the Sara girl and she was of no help. She said she would contact someone regarding my order, but never even got back to. Good thing I decided to pay the little extra to get it shipped from Canada. That or I'd be waiting......and waiting......and waiting. September? Wow...

I've been seeing the date range in late June being mentioned a lot so I'm hoping many places start shipping into next week. Keep in mind that the only people who have really started getting their gh1s are from Panasonic Direct. At this late stage it's hard to say whether it's a good idea to get out of line anywhere. I did order from Amazon because their return exchange and shipping are the best (especially if you use prime). I can't believe some people who ordered in june from panny alrea5y have theirs! Still sounds like their fulfillment is not very consistent! In the future I might order direct early. Still I have peace of mind with my Amazon order.

ordering direct has nothing to do with it. there's a guy on these forums that ordered May 3rd and still has no cam (from panny direct) while someone else ordered from panny direct June 5th and got his camera a week later.

While silly to argue at this point, it does have SOMETHING to do with it.

MORE people who ordered direct have cameras. That isn't saying that some people who ordered really early shouldn't have received them by now. So far the ONLY other retailer that has shipped any that I have heard of in the US is Amazon, which has two reports from early May orders.

So while Shopatron is terribly inconsistent, they must have access to inventory over other retailers in some way. All I'm saying is that if you've ordered direct you probably don't have much faith in order status, but still you MIGHT be ahead of some of us who have orders in elsewhere due to access to inventory. In hindsight I probably would have put in an order both direct and Amazon, just to see if I'd get lucky with the Panny direct order.

Since this is more about setting consumer expectations, the fact that some people ordered direct really early May haven't received cameras is disturbing, but changing your order to another retailer at this stage doesn't mean you'll get one sooner -- but probably your expectations will be better set by BH, Adorama, or Amazon. I'd just wait it out another week and see if everything starts becoming more concrete.

So even though Panny's fulfillment process is totally screwed up, they do have access to cameras before other places up to this point. I was "guessing" that bigger retailers would actually take precedence over their own fulfillment because of the importance of these relationships...guess not.

I don't want to brag (honestly), but I think I have the latter record. Ordered from Panasonic Direct at 8:45pm on June 17th and had it by about 11am on June 19th. this isn't to pour salt on wounds: just to show how much I agree with the statement that they seem very erratic on what goes out when. While I'm happy to have my camera, I do think their order/shipping system is a bit wack!

I think from all the people and all the calls, it's a given now that they plan to send out the next big batch on the 22nd or 23rd. Whether or not that'll cover all preorders or not, who knows. Only way is to wait until this Wed/Thu.

well

well

finally my *May 15th* order shipped yesterday, UPS shows 6/23 delivery (via ground from IL to NJ, not bad at all). yay :Drogar-KnockedOut(D

This should have been so exciting, if it weren't for their completely ?#!% up ordering system.

Oh just remembered, I still have to cancel my second order from the night when Mike ordered his. Knowing Panasonic, I'll probably receive THAT camera too after I cancel!

My bad, I meant May 15th, not 5th. 5/15 was the first day Panny direct. I know, I was anxious to get to the front of the line (as in "preorder") and did so as soon as the "preorder" started.

thats not possible. Direct didnt start taking pre orders until mid May.
the only place taking pre orders in early May was J&R, and i dont think anyone has received a cam from them yet.

dont get your hopes up dude. they "promised" me, with a 100% guarantee that my
order would be going out on the 16th. so i payed for 2nd day shipping so id have it by
friday for a shoot. well...it didnt go out till friday night, so i wasted the xtra $40 on
shipping

mine will be here on Monday according to the UPS tracking info

I ordered from Adorama yesterday and received an email today (just a couple hours ago) that it's backordered. Amazon still shows 1-2 months.
